what!!! What about "Come On"???? That's in retrospect perhaps one of his best tracks of the post 1990's. In my most humble opinion.

You know that feeling you get sometimes where you feel like you're about fall off a cliff and then instantly you snap out of it? You realize you're perfectly ok, but it gives you a weird, sick sensation?

whoops I meant to say post 1990... not 1990's....

anyway that song is pure genius from the lyrics, attitude, tone, production, and solo..... it really seems to be a continuation of the Camille concept with it's slightly speeded vocal.

I think the amazing thing is that no one really agrees on any of these songs. Just a testament to the breadth and depth of work. And at least it touches a nerve...good or bad.

For the record I'll add

Alphabet St. - why has no one mentioned this?
U Got the Look - "heck-a-slammin"? I mean come on, P, that's all you got, bruh?

There are others but these jump right off the top. In general I think big video tunes and first singles irk me.

Rapping excerpts - I love many songs right up to the rapping parts. The rap wrecks Love 2 the 9s

I'd have said that about Rave, not 3121. I haven't listened to that CD (Rave) since a week after I bought it.....
Agree with many of the songs posted here with a few big exceptions, esp. Adore. I still like that song and was surprised to see that so many people hate it so much.

I'm surprised you saw that too, because no one said they hated it. wink

There is a big difference between hating something and disliking it. I *hate* Peach and One of Us...I can't bear to listen to either song, I must turn the station. I *dislike* Adore; given the choice I would choose not to listen to it, but if it comes on the All Prince satellite station I won't change the station. (And my comments about each song reflect the difference in feelings.)

Mr Happy

yes!!!! That horrid song! How can I forget! I was at this after show and he asked the crowd what they wanted to hear and this guy said Mr. Happy and I said nooooo anything but that and P. Grabbed me to go on stage with him and I was wisked away to be put on stage and they played it and I had to dance to it....Luckly I knew the whole song and knew it was horrible so I started dancing like there was something wrong with me...and I stayed up there for like 3 or 4 songs and I got down...I was put on stage to dance right by P's keyboard. I'll never forget the details of that night...
Um... let me warm up my vocals

I'm sorry, you're right. I went back to read that thread more carefully and there was more "hating" for Slow Love- which of course is easier to agree with, razz .
I don't think I can "hate" anything Prince does, but I sure do strongly dislike some stuff!!

Surprised that nobody mentioned this one:

"Right the Wrong" ill It has to be the WORST song that Prince has ever written. Every time it comes on, I skip over it.

i've been listening to 'come on' a lot recently but just the remixes and live tv show stuff. The single is just weak, melodically poor, crap chorus, lyrics. the only thing to save it is the rhythm.
if you wanted to measure how far prince had stagnated since 1987, when the camille stuff started, then just listen to this.

Songs already mentioned from C&D,Rave and Come:
I like the D&P period but also hate the Rap songs,b sides from that period.

What I never could get in2 is those up tempo light rocksongs:
Ronnie talk 2 Russia
Can't stop this feeling
Cinnamon Girl
If I was the man in your life
Bambi

I can listen 2 Play in the sunshine because I have good memories about this song

since I'm just a casual fan though it's been for most of my life, I think it's safe to say that there are very few songs of his I like after 1992, I could count them on one hand in fact. Most things before that I don't have a problem with at all, or I wouldn't be here!
