Ooh The Ride, now that is my Jam. He said in the liner notes that its not THE BEST . Now, if that is not the best then what is it exactly?? Speaking of which, I read the liner notes and 'he'(Or whoever wrote these liner notes is) said TSOV's version is more powerfull becoz she was there while he pre4med it 'She knows who she is!' And who the hell is that woman?? Mayte?? HMMmmm,,,

I like a lot of the songs on CB, but I love it just because of Crucial, it's my favorite song! The Truth is good too.

I can see your point...but i also felt he could have included so many more classic unreleased songs(like the Movie Star session songs) instead of songs that he would never put on an album(like Hide the Bone...maybe an NPG album, but it would never show on a prince album). Just my 2 pennies.

The gripes centre on the remixes and the fact the material would have fit on two 80 minute CDs.
He just didn't go all out for value and anthologising his vault material. Of course there's some classic stuff on there though. Hopefully part two should it ever arrive will complete the picture...

Hmm...
I can widdle CB down to one cd. I was expecting fun rarities like Mutiny, God is Alive, piano/jazz pieces and alternate versions of songs he wrote for other people. I admit, I dould have done without P Control and the loose remix was actually the original version (my understanding is the Come cd was to be dancie) Anyway, originally, I loathed the Truth. I thought it was crap...at that point in time anyway. Now, the Truth is phenomonal. I'm assuming my hatred of ONA will pass and I Will see it as a work of art. _________________________________________

To me the Days Of Wild live version made the CB set all worth the wait. So I hope the new DOW live single is worth the 5! The CB could have been a bit more cool if it had notes telling more about each track, ya know tho its P.

Crystal Ball: it's okay.
The Truth: Classic. | |

I truly treasure "The Crystal Ball/The Truth", I appreciate all that Prince puts forth musically. I especially Disc III... "Days of Wild" (I can never listen to enough), "POOM POOM"(personal favorite... you all just don't know how badly I wished Prince would of performed this one "live" the times I have seen him).
As for "The Truth", simply it, "the truth", "don't play me", "animal kingdom" , "one of your tears"(beautifully agonizing), "comeback"(hauntingly, hurtfully... beautiful) and "welcome 2 the dawn" (I can relate ). ... I like this LP. Beautiful Night!

thebumpsquad said: Okay, fair enuff Crystal Ball aint a flawlessly compiled, rarity-stuffed, chronologically assembled "Anthology" of Prince out-takes. But,track by track, this is as wild and as versatile as any music Prince has made. Its a full-on exhibition of the multi-genre command which has always been his strongest calling card. It's stuffed full of rap, disco, soul, R&B, blues, rock, pop, ballads, boppers, and ALWAYS more funk. With The Truth CD, its a welcome reminder of why I love Prince so much in the first place-for his artistic daring, his passion, his refusal to be confined by anyones expectations, his melodies, his playfulness, and his wierd and wacky sense of humour. On some tracks (The Truth title song),he screams with a commitment that had been missing from his music for years. On others, he's the ultimate pop-prankster, throwing in references to Jimi Hendrix and Henry Mancini the way other artists scatter expletives (altho-he can manage those too-Days Of Wild!).
My main reason for replying to this thread was this tho.I just wanted to repeat something I read when he first released it, it said: "Buy this album, but pause for a moment's silence, in memory of the man's commercial sense-and consider another scenario. The Truth is released, after a flurry of press leaks, as a single CD.Everyone welcomes Prince back to the land of the giants. Then he unleashes Crystal Ball.It goes quadruple platinum, and sets him up to do whatever he damn well pleases for the next decade.Ladies and gentlemen-this album is ALIVE! That was it!-Sorry for going on, but if u read the WHOLE thing-well done! Well Said! If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

If it were material he would have otherwised released why would he refer to them as bootlegs? what would be the whole point of the album? Anyway, also looove Sexual Suicide. kmc said: I actually felt guilty NOT purchasing it from 1-800-NEW-FUNK, but when I got around to ordering it I noticed the set in my local record store and said "what the hey... Prince ain't gonna miss my 50 bucks." I guess because I didn't have to wait a whole year for the set I really appreciate it -- and remember this too the remixes are only old to people that already brought COME and TGE, and there was practically no FUNKY SINGLES released with those albums so I think Prince called himself getting the new mixes out to his fanbase.
Am I the only one that remembers buying a new Prince album practically monthly back in the day simply for the REMIXES and b-sides? Well Crystal Ball was the REMIXES and b-sides for COME and TGE most likely. Really? I found it used for $12.99 (they mispriced it, they thought it was a 2-disc set. they must not have know Price discs very well). Of course, I got the hockey puck the week it came out in stores.
