Is it sad, expected or unexpected that Prince did not go to James Brown's funeral?

I genuinely thought he would go. Nothing more... no judgement, no comment... I simply thought that Prince would attend James Brown's funeral.

prince hasn't gone to any funerals.

He doesn't acknowledge one's passing. Jill jones was upset that prince didn't send her any cards after a family member who was his hairdresser died.

Didn't lisa's brother die and prince didn't send anything or acknowledge it then?

He doesn't actually care about anyone; that's the truth.

He didn't attend the funerals of his own mother and father, so I didn't expect to see him there.

I agree. He is one disrespectful prick. And don't give me bullshit about paying your respect in other ways.

If he had gone, how many people here would have gone just to see Prince in person and not to pay respects to JB? This was JBs moment, not a bunch of celebrities trying to steal the limelight and get kudos by being associated with JB. I'm kinda glad Prince didn't turn up.

nod

unless it´s mom, dad, brother or sister, i think people should be
left alone if they choose not to attend a funeral.

Some of you need to chill. If the man had gone to the funeral, people would still be bitching and calling him names...questioning how he could go the funeral of James Brown, but not his parents or his sister. rolleyes

It should be obvious by now that the man doesn't do funeral. Plenty of people don't go to funeral. But hey, I guess it's just an opportunity for some to sling mud at 'evil' Prince.

um, people arguing over this is actually disgusting, i mean come on, its non of ur god damn business whether prince chooses to go 2 a funeral or not. i know loads of people who wont go 2 funerals, he isnt alone. Beyond that, its not as if he was being disrespectful, the whole world knows that prince loved james browns music.

on the other hand, im pleased that mj did go because he paid his respects in the way he felt appropriate.

dissing one or the other over their decision to go or not to go is completely pointless and damn insensitive

with that being said, it's prince right to go or not to go...and before folks start making stuff up about jws if the event was not held at a church then prince could have went and it wouldn't have been against his religion.

It's expected. He hasn't gone to any funerals that I know of in recent times. Plus he has shows this weekend so it would be extremely hard to go to anything like that, considering that it was on the other side of the country.

Well it appears that some people here believes there is only one way to mourn and one and only way pay respect and if you don't do it their way, you're all kinds a nasty names.

Thank you! Any ol' excuse will do when it comes to bashing Prince. Folks around here are always so quick to judge!

I don't know why folks believe that you HAVE to go to funerals to mourn and show respect. Like it's the ONLY way! rolleyes

Co-Sign. It just has not dawned on some people on this board. Just maybe P does not do funerals at all. I think he showed his respect for James many times over the last 20 years or so.

Sadly it is. Last I checked what funerals he did or did not attend is not my business nor anyone else on this sites. He has brought us his musical genius for over 20 years. Any resposibility he had to us is well paid.

No that was Wendy's brother Jonathan back in 1996 when he was on so and so terms with Wendy and Lisa.

Prince have gave some song dedication knowledged to Lisa's brother when he performed Sometimes It Snow In April around March 2004 around the same time he passed.

And about Jill that was her uncle who did his hair during the Purple Rain era.

I agreed. Prince always had his own way of dealing with grief always have always been. He didn't attend his own parents funeral but that doesn't make him a callous person. Prince had his way of grieving and i truly respect him for that.

Neither sad nor unexpected, imo.

I think that if he would have gone to the funeral his appearance would have been overshadowed by MJs "return" anyway. Prince did show his respects, he changed the opening page on 3121.com to read "In restful peace, James Brown." I'd guess Prince is honoring JB in his own way; just because he didn't attend the funeral doesn't mean he's not showing respect.

From what I read, Maceo Parker wasn't there either...that, to me, is more surprising. (But then again, I don't know as much about Maceo's m.o.)

When I was younger, I was dragged to funerals, (Yes, dragged because I didn't want to go in the first place!) where I refused to go up to the caskets and people would get all bent out shape with me about it.

Why doesn't it ever occur to people that perhaps some people just don't want their last memory of someone they loved to be of them laid out in a casket?

Perhaps, just perhaps, we would prefer to have our last memories of them be of as they were in life! And there is NOTHING WRONG about that!

I think that it was extremely tacky and in bad taste that Prince did show up for the funeral. One of the great innovators of music has died and he acts like he does n't even care. That is extremely arrogant on his part. What is the man afaird to been seen on TV or in public crying? He let Michael Jackson completely upstage him. Prince is supposed to be up for alot of awards in 2007 and please beleive that I don't think this blunder will go on blind eyes.
I am sorely disappointed in Prince.

It's sad. Prince needs to check himself. mad

Exactly, not 5 minutes ago, I read a headline that said "Jacko Steals James Brown's Spotlight -- at Funeral!".

No one HAS to attend a funeral to pay respects, that's just STUPID to think that way. As others have said, Prince does it his way, thru his music:

http://www.reviewjournal....15035.html

"Prince, during his show at the Rio on Friday, performed a tribute to James Brown"
