I could be wrong on this, but wasn't Prince credited as the photographer of the picture gallery inside "The Family" LP back in '85 (not the cover, inside the fold)? [Edited 12/22/06 15:33pm]

[Edited 12/22/06 15:33pm] yep sosgemini, good point about sly (who also happens to publish his own mag) problem with prince's fans is that most of them would tell him what they think he wants to hear would he really listen to the rest of us? not that he has to but... "Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22).

given away freely and will be stocked at major hotels lobbies on the vegas strip!! more like a sales pitch for his show and highlight the rio has other proteges whole the time?? and it will include local ads to pay for the publication That sounds about right. I like the way he's always willing to try something different and I hope he has fun with it. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

magazine is great, but an actual magazine I can hold in my hands is even better...I think that would be very cool...I'd love to see P's photography...

I'd rather see his photos in a gallery and/or a book. But the mag idea could be interesting. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

This would seem a logical step. I think he has realized that you can't stay on top in the music world forever, and has (as he has for years no doubt), decided to take on other ventures.

Prince DID do an online questionnaire at NPGMC about a month before it closed down , I think this is very exciting news just goes to show what his fans already knew, there is NO END to what this man can do!

You've gotta be better than Violet Brown!!! Good luck! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Wow... am I the only one who meets such news with nothing but apathy?
Well, if the quality of journalism found in Prince's past websites, magazines and indeed the current 3121.com are anything to go by, this isn't anything to get excited about. Let's face it, this is just another one of Prince's half-assed projects that he'll probably get bored of after a while. I'm expecting wall-to-wall puff pieces, press releases disguised as articles, and awful obsequious, fawning interviews that resemble 1950s BBC interviews with royalty. "So ma'am, is there anything else you'd like to say?". Pukerama. I'm also not at all interested in Prince as a photographer. Is anyone? Especially not when the subject matter is PR shots of whoever the "flavour of the month" protege happens to be. Prove me wrong Prince, by all means. Any idiot can point a camera. Also I can't help but feel that to shut down NPGMC and focus on a new print magazine is a terribly regressive step for Prince.

Magazine to Feature Exclusive Interviews and Pictorials Compiled by the Artist Himself LAS VEGAS, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In case Prince's music career doesn't quite pan out or he just grows tired of overseeing the activities of the hottest club to hit the Las Vegas scene, 3121 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, fans have no need to worry about what would be in store for the artist who has been feverishly taking over the valley with his late night, high energy musical escapades. It seems Prince is dabbling in the world of publishing. Here's an idea: before Prince starts a new magazine, how about him reimbursing those that were ROBBED of their money from previous publications? NPG Magazine, Truth Magazine,... All happily accepted subscriptions and then folded or didn't even bother to send out copies to subscribers. © Bart Van Hemelen

sosgemini said: cause you know, if oprah can do it...so can prince?
wtf? prince really needs to pull a 200 online question series like sly did over at aintitcool. it was an eye opening experience for sly. he read all the talkback responces and was amazed at the fan's perspectives. so much so he is promising to come back and do 200 additional question and answers. sly even asked for career advises and asked for folks opinion on him re-making Death Wish. The fans had a serious discussion w/ pros and cons on both sides and in the end Stallone sided with the majority of the fans and decided to scrap the film idea. experts predicted Rocky Balboa would only gross 2 to 3 million but do to the huge goodwill that sly earned from doing the online questions the film took in over 6 million. now, its sad world we live in when Sly Stallone comes off smarter then you. Come on prince...what does a magazine have anything to do with your musical/creative genius? ego trip to the extreme... ----- Well it seems to me that this is a way to showcase his photos. We have no idea what they look like so let's not jump to conclusions. In addtion, lots of rich people fund vanity projects. P is not the first person to do this. Look at Oprah. I'd be happier if Prince released a book of his photography and/or even had his work shown at a gallery or two. Why shouldn't he take his work seriously? A lot of entertainers show their work, even if it's just hobby-level, and the fans love it. I like the idea of a 3121 print magazine, though he should do something a little more permanent with his work, even if it's just 'snapshot' quality stuff. It's still a window into his personality, and I'm sure it would be interesting stuff, even if it's not master work.
