While Prince peddled crap like "WDYWMTD", others were passin his ass!! - aka Tennessee Slim is the Bomb appreciation!

"What do You Want me to Do" from Musuckology is one of the biggest steaming piles of Crap Prince ever released and while people got really excited about his using the lin drumm, to the point that someone hysterically called this song "Dorothy Parker's twin sister", other arists were making Prince songs that Prince used to make. And the sad thing is, I think this is more Wendy and Lisa than Prince but alas, there is no W&L without Prince.

Joi's "Dance With Yesterday" from her album Tennessee Slim is the Bomb

WOW! worship What an absolutely amazing song. mushy The sound is definitely inspired by Prince. It sounds like a song he could have written in the height of his creative zenith. And the lyrics are beautiful as well. I just got so embarrassed for Prince that his attempts at revisiting himself was just so lazy, uninspired and downright pathetic.

Prince, reclaim your throne man, don't be outPrinced by the juniors! lol

Oh, this isn't the best quality but you get the jist of how amazing a singer Joi is:

worship

Oh damn, tearin up Darlin Nikki

http://youtube.com/watch?v=aQUiWu0wJHs

eek
This is seriously one of the most underrated artists out there. Support this girl and buy Tennesse Slim is the Bomb. It's her solidest effort to date and there is so much great music goin on music Word has it she is supposed to be part of George Clinton's revisited Brides of Funkenstein. Please tell me this is true pray

WDYWMTD is right up there with Prince's worst songs in my opinion
Musicology was a really good, but not great album for
me...Thank God for 3121, I know some of ya'll diss it all the same but it
redemeed him so much in my word

As for Teneessee Slim, I haven't heard of her, but if she's funky I'm
down to try her out!

BTW, please explain this Brides of Frankesein??
I've seen them mentioned in a couple threads but I'm completely in the dark?
If you will, so will I

The Brides were the female equivalent of George Clinton nod During the Parliament Funkadelic days he had a splinter group of female singers and they were the Brides of Funkenstein biggrin I had heard that Joi was one of the new Brides but haven't seen or heard any more regarding that project. I sure as hell hope it sees the light of day.

Tennessee Slim is the Bomb is the album title lol And yes, Joi is funky as hell. That woman can SANG! headbang

Oh, and I completely agree with your comments about 3121. I hated musicology and 3121 was such a refreshing drink of water in the desert wasteland that is Musicology lol

Amen. Some Orgers will bring up anything from 3121's production to its engineering in a negative way, but I always thought the album was pure quality. He actually sounds like he cared on 3121. On Musicology, he just sounded scared of making music that was received poorly.

Exactly. He was so wrapped up in the musicology experience that he wanted to give the impoverished masses bags of rice instead of steak and potatoes and the sad thing is many were happy with that! lol

So true. People were just happy with Musicology because he'd abandoned writing pop songs for the past five years or so, and people were relieved to see him return to "normal" music.

"Dance With Yesterday" was what she asked if Prince wrote, not the whole album.

Think of it as tough love. I'm just hoping that Prince sees this thread so he can stop making lazy music and get his heart back into it. He shouldn't be eclipsed by other artists. He set the standard and he should always keep that in mind. If this is moved to Non-Prince, how do you think he'll ever see it?! lol
