8 Mile and Purple Rain I just saw the movie trailer for Eminem's debut film, "8 Mile". From what I saw it reminded me of "Purple Rain", whereas Eminem is living a not so rich life, where his parents seem uninterested in his music and he ends up focuing on his music, even performing in a club with competitions, falling in love, etc until he hits it big. The movie looked entertaining enough. I know it's not the greatest thread but I had nothing else to do right now

The similarities are more than coincidental. There are some of the same people involved in the production of both films... in fact the idea for "8 Mile" I read in a Hollywood mag was to produce an up to date "Purple Rain."
It does seem to have a lot of star power behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera, but at least with Purple Rain, we were for the most part being introduced to someone (Prince) that most had really not known much about... whereas 8 Mile is not really introducin EM as much as it's telling the story he seems to be narrating to us over and over again. So true. Everybody already knows who Eminem is and he's already sold millions and millions of records. This was not the case with Prince prior to Purple Rain. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
