endorphine machine used on tv...

do tv shows have to buy the rights to use an artist's song during the show??

it's a rerun but prince's "endorphine machine"
was just the opener to csi miami confused
including the end segue framing that annoying red head walking into the shot rolleyes

You obtain licence from the rights holder to use the music.

The rights holder will therefore usually receive payment for use.

The ASCAP article below explains that you will normally obtain clearance through licence to use of all or part of a master sound recording.

There is also a synchronisation right - effectively the rights holder licences the use of the recording in association with the broadcast image.
