i'm so lovin' P being so high profile, he is NOT selling out..

he's just taking his rightful place at the top of the pile. The love and respect that is mostly shown after an appearance perhaps shows how loved this Cat is. Since 2004 he has been playing the media game and i suspect 2007 will see a highly commercial album + tour.
If he is doing commercial deals i.e. Pepsi, so what?, he's lost potentially millions by being arty and nearly going broke. He's earned the right to be commercial. Go for it P.

He's had his sellout moments.....

The song "Incense and Candles".
Performing with shit hop trash like Beyonce on the AMAs in 2004.
Andy is a four letter word.

I would say: AI, Super Bowl, LV, the GAP ad, and the Chevy Ad... are his greatest sell out moments...i put AMAs as a NOT sell out... it was however a calculated move to promote the goings on of 2004

The only thing that Prince is selling out is the clubs and the areans. It's all about the music. I don't care about what forum it's shown or heard in. As long as the music is kicking but that's all that matters to me.Let's all get FUNKED up.

I don't think he's selling out. I don't think he ever has sold out. The man is making money and he looks happy to me.

I don't care. I get to see his little ass on tv and that makes ME happy!
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me.
Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots.
Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

Man Prince should have been doing all this high profile stuff before. He's the one who needs this exposure the most and it's time to see someone with real talent to get some big praise. Oh and he's not selling out at all. The only thing he needs to sell out is an arena and after Musicology, I have no doubt he can do it again.

Prince, keep on being high profile!!!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

he approved Little Red Corvett for a chevy commercial (it was from the Sign O the Times movie) and he approved the use of "baby I;m a star" for GAP adds.

Approving songs for commercials isn't selling out - it's just good business.

Second that motion bull, it's always been about the music 4 me and it always will be. As far as being high or low profile or selling out or being mysterious and private I don't give a F**K, keep it funky and I'll be happy. When I am at a concert and lights go out and the first note drops I forget about all the nonsense and listen to the music.

I've never viewed Prince as a true sellout. Yeah, he's manipulated resources that were at his disposal, but he always seems to do this to further his artistic vision. He never seems to really be corrupted by the whole process. It's always done in the name of something important to him.

well said, lets face it he could have been sooooo much more commercial from P. Rain onwards but really never milked it.

just because he could milk it more doesnt mean he has not milked it some. which i think tells the story... and sums up the sell out issue... if a person could make a significantly larger amount of money by letting his image or art be used for things other than what they were originally intended for... that is a sell out.

surely though the Man deserves some credit then for not milking it 100% like MJ?. So is an appearance on AI [on his own DIVA like terms] anymore or less viable tha releasing a promo video to MTV?. The man cannot buy any amount of airplay right now, Black sweat would have easily been a hit, all he's doing is finding another avenue which TV serves well.

It wasn't the Gap, it was Target. And it wasn't Prince's version, it was Tina Turner's cover. Tina approved her version of the song for the ad, and Prince got the writing royalties. I don't think he had that much to do with that one.

oh yeah, thanks for the correction

prince had to approve it. not only can the not use one of his songs without his approval they can not even use a song that is close enough to one of his as to me mistaken for it.
