When (if?) Prince goes back to playing strictly smaller venues, this same writer will probably complain that Prince is wasting his talents when he could still enjoy commercial success. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Yeah its definitely no winning with critics since thats what they do, criticize! This one definitely got it wrong though because P is gonna come on the heels of performances like Paul McCartney and The Stones and show them why he's still the sexiest and funkiest act alive not to mention doing it while pushing 50. Anyone who doubts P is gonna turn it out at the Superbowl probably has no idea what a showman he is especially when he knows how many people watch the superbowl. Justin got his chance and he f@cked up royally. Now Prince is gonna show em how it's supposed to be done!

I loved his performance! He was the only reason I watched the 2005 Super Bowl, and Prince will be the only reason I watch the 2007 Super Bowl! Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

when the Superbowl decided to go young and hip by having MTV produce it drew criticism. Now you have an older person playing....and it draws criticism....so what do people want. anyway, who cares. I'm ready!!! [Edited 12/12/06 6:10am] True...

rrr
15919__prince_l There once was a time when Prince seemed to me the epitome of sexy, risque music. I was 3 years old when Purple Rain came out, and although I never listened to that album beginning to end until this year, the idea of Prince's songs and the idea of Prince as a performer always loomed large in my mind. Which is why it's sort of a bummer to hear the news that he'll be the halftime act at this year's Super Bowl, following hot on the heels of old fogeys Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones — which seems to indicate that maybe he is now an old fogey himself. But we didn't need the NFL to tell us that — not since our friend Simon beat 'em to the punch. Prince's appearance on American Idol earlier this year was surely a boon for record sales but, I think, bad for his image (I know everyone and their mother is a fan of this show, but Prince always seemed a little more anti-establishment than that; this is the guy who left a major-label contract and money to start his own means of putting out music). Then, there was last month's news that he would start performing Friday and Saturday night shows at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, a la Wayne Newton/Celine Dion/other sorts of pop culture punchlines. And now the Super Bowl. One thing we know for sure, however, is that there's not going to be any problems with the FCC this time around, for there's no way a now-devout Jehovah's Witness (like I said, Purple Rain came out a long time ago, back when Prince was anything but "safe") is going to do anything fine-worthy, definitely nothing like this. Do you PopWatchers agree with me about Prince's decline? Is this news going to make you any more or any less likely to watch the Super Bowl halftime show this year? Who would you sub in his place? Posted by Gilbert Cruz | 12.11.06, 03:57 PM http://popwatch.ew.com/po...l#comments its funny how a few months ago everyone on this site was wondering where Prince was ,why dont he do something ,make some appearances, just show up. people were hungry for Prince news ,events ,sightings & now comes the mother load..Prince every where doing everything & the same set of people turn around and complain why is he performing here, there Vegas,Bowl,AI....shut up already !!! You all begged for him to come out of hiding ,now enjoy the ride!!!!!1

What I love about Prince is that he is always going to do what he wants to do. I may not always be for it but Prince almost always gets the last laugh. Prince is going to make people who thought he was washed up or even dead, as one of my co-workers thought he was, realize not only how phenominal he is as a musician and as an entertainer but also how live music is supposed to be done. I hope and pray that this performance is the benchmark for how all Halftime SB performances will be after this one. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

As for the critic, there was nothing in that article that I could get with cause it was obvious he was just another person who thinks all Prince is, is Purple Rain. I dare him to name me the album he did in 1988 or 1996. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
