DO YOU LIKE THE NEW POWER SOUL CD?

When you first heard the "NEW POWER SOUL" album what did you think about it, did you like love or hate it. Did the album have any strong points, and weak points? Do you still listen to it today?

When I first heard "NPS", I thought it was fun. I really like "The One", "Until U're in my arms again", and for some reason, I quite enjoy "New power Soul" ("Get Freaky, let the head bob" - this can be interpreted in soo many fun ways lol ). I didn't realize there was a hidden track until a long time after I had the album. One day I just left it playing and after a minute or two of silence, "Wasted Kisses" starts playing...great little surprise I think. Great song. Unfortunately, many orgers aren't to fond of "NPS" from many posts I've read, but I think this album is waaay better than "Chaos and Disorder" and "The Vault". Now, those two albums really sucked.

I've always liked it never really loved it.

For me it has a couple of great songs, Come on and The One.

Some good stuff , Mad Sex, When U Love somebody, Wasted Kisses,

The rest is OK.

I'm surprised it gets so much flack its not a dreadful album by far.

I'd say 7/10.

I prefer it to Emancipation, The Truth, Chaos and Disorder, The Vault

my least listened to Prince cd.
doesnt grab me at all.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I like it...it´s not a Prince masterpiece but that probably wasn´t even the intention behind this. Based on a "good-songs-per-album" ratio, I´d say it´s pretty good and enjoyable.

The One, Wasted Kisses, Come On ( and the cool maxisingle with the remixes ), Until U´re In My Arms Again etc. are good songs.
They would sound more interesting if he revisited them with a live band approach.

Keep in mind that this album came out when he was in a very dark phase...and he still went on tour and made music, despite all the bad things going on in his life. He deserves respect for that....other musicians would´ve ended up on drugs, in rehab or partying and boozing. I admire how he managed to keep his composure despite all the tragedy surrounding him.
It´s a decent and very listenable , enjoyable album, in my opinion.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I've always loved this CD and I can never work out why so many people dislike it.

Bar one or two duffers (eye Like Funky Music being the most obvious) it's quite a unique Prince CD (Even though it's credited to New Power Generation, it's a Prince CD 100%) and I love the party vibe that's going on throughout the album.

And with songs like 'Come On', 'The One' and 'Wasted Kisses' I think it's got the same balance of great/good/not-so-good songs as any other Prince CD.

when it's good, it's really good. when it's bad, it's really bad.

i can't call an album with "come on", "mad sex", "the one" and "wasted kisses" on it a failure. it's not one of my favorite albums of his, but it does have one of my favorite songs ("come on").

so...it is what it is. shrug

It's got four great songs on it (Mad Sex, Come On, The One, Wasted Kisses), but they're surrounding by some of his weakest shit from the 90's.

I like it. I keep "Mad Sex" and "Come On" in regular rotation on my iPod, along with "Freaks on this Side". They remind me of a fun time in my life...
music giggle

Plus, I really like the video for "The One". I saw it recently on VH1 Soul and thought, "Wow! I forgot about that!"

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

That's probably his best video from that period...simple and stylish.

i like it. don´t listen to it every day but it´s a cool enough album
with lots of fun songs on it.

as an album i agree with the people who say it doesn´t really work,
but the separate songs are good enough.

for the album to feel better and more cohesive it would have been a
bit nicer to add some weird uncategorisable stuff and a bit of rock
just to keep things flowing better.

but as is, i don´t think it´s his worst album at all. i mean, any
album that´s got "Come On", "The One", "Wasted Kisses" and "Mad Sex"
can´t be all bad.

I liked it a lot when it first came out because I was expecting an NPG record and instead got an all Prince affair. That was a nice surprise.

I don't listen to it much anymore, but there are several songs that I enjoy on there. The remixes for "Come On" and "The One" are killer.

When I first heard it I liked it but I didn't love it. Then the more I listened to it the more it rubbed off on me and I came to realize what a fantastic cd it really is. I remember thinking that "Until Ure in my Arms Again" was a weak point, but now I dig it.

I do like it and I'll tell you why. Though this hasn't happened with his last 3 or so releases, most of his releases were associated with events in my life. They're reminders of what was happening during those particular CDs. I hear Purple Rain, it reminds me of my '83 - '85 years. ATWIAD, same thing.

Newpowersoul had some cool stuff, and some stuff I never really listened to. I always dug Mad Sex, and Until You're In My Arms Again, and sorta liked The One. Again, and I'll share briefly, Mad Sex (due to my frame of mind during that time because of..... Until You're in My Arms Again (broke up with an ex around that time)....and The One (a rebound mack dug this tune) So you see, I really dug the cd in general, but am more in tune with the personal vibe that's associated with the songs.

Boy, did I say too much, huh? Aw fuck it, it's the past anyway. smile

I remember the day I bought this cd. It was a hot summer day in 1998. I always had love for NPS, even when other people bashed it. I still listen to it every now and then. Wasted Kisses is a nice afterglow track.
