Terrible, plastic-sounding album that represents an era of Prince I'd just as soon forget. I can tolerate "Come On" but no songs on here really stand the test of time for me. Right down there with TRC and "Chaos and Disorder" as nadirs of the man's career.

(That being said, it is still 10 times better than anything Justin Timberlake has ever or will ever do.)

[b][i]It has "Come On" which is certainly 1 of the better songs from the second half of the 90's BUT it also has "push it up" & "freaks on this side" which are weak ..... to say it nicely!!

Still a decent album though ,as i like "the One" & "until ure in my arms" biggrin

I can't think of a worse prince album than NPS. he has very few dull albums.
It does have 2 or 3 moments but that's not enough for a p album

Come is also quite dull

Me too. I got it a couple of weeks ago. I was in a local store looking at books (they don't usually carry CD's) and it literally dropped in front of me so I bought it. Does anyone know if Prince did the artwork? It doesn't say.

So he did do the them? I meant like the sketches and things inside the booklet. I like them. The hands remind me of Schiele.

I love "Freaks On This Side". This song was supposed to have a sorta live feel to it. "The Freaks On This Side" chant was supposed to sound like fans chanting in the background. When I saw him live in 1997, he had the arena chant, "FREAKS IN THE BUILDING!!!" and it reminds me very much of that same exact vibe. The hornz on that song are sick! Its so greasy and of the cuff. Its a real gem on NPS, IMO.

"The One" is just lush and gorgeous. The stings and flutes are unlike anything he's ever done b4 or since.

"Come On". Prince and Chaka deliver the soul. Its a total road trip song that I must have spun a million times since 1998.

I really like "The One", and a few other tracks, but I don't pull it out and play it very often. "Wasted Kisses" is very cool... very unique song in his catelog.

It probably could´ve been more popular among fans if he had left Push It Up and I Like Funky Music off of it and replaced those two songs with two stronger songs.
If he had done that and released the album with some decent cover artwork it would´ve been considered a decent Prince album or a strong NPG album.

Had this album not been released and were available as a bootleg only, with some decent cover artwork instead of that bullshit, fans would praise it to this day.

It does contain some strong material and I still like it alot. You have to listen to it with an open mind and also consider the phase he was going through ,and for that, it is actually quite good.

I agree w/ you here. The coverart was horrible. What was he thinking?

I think it's actually pretty decent.

Stuff like The One, Come On, Shoo-Bed-Ooo, and Until Ure In My Arms Again are really fun and, at times, border on great songs. The rest is a little sketchier, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised that some of this stuff is quite alright - I'd rather listen to the songs I listed above than most any of the dreck on Rave or Symbol.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...
