Prince's Happy Feet Eligible For Oscar Nomination Oscar's eligible songs released
Academy announces 56 songs set to vie for nominations. By Mark Olsen, The Envelope December 8, 2006 The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today released a list of 56 songs eligible for the original song category for the 79th Academy Awards. Among the songs eligible for nomination are "The Book I Write" from "Stranger Than Fiction," "Dreamz With A Z" from "American Dreamz," "I Need To Wake Up" from "An Inconvenient Truth," "It's A Fight," from "Rocky Balboa," "Never Gonna Break My Faith" from "Bobby," "O Kazakhstan" from "Borat," "Til The End of Time" from "Little Miss Sunshine," "Try Not To Remember" from "Home Of The Brave," and "You Know My Name," from Casino Royale." Some films had multiple songs declared eligible. "Family of Me," "Heist," and "Still" all come from "Over The Hedge." "Cars" was home to "Our Town" and "Real Gone." "Dreamgirls," a presumed Oscar favorite, included the eligible songs "Listen," "Love You I Do," and "Patience." On January 16, voting members of the Academy's music branch will meet in Beverly Hills and New York to determine the final 3-5 nominees in the category. An eligible song must consist of words and music which are both original and written specifically for the film. A "clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition" must be used either in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits. Last year, there was some controversy after "A Love That Will Never Grow Old" from "Brokeback Mountain" was declared ineligible for not being heard clearly enough in the film. Nominations for the 79th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2007. It would be so wonderful if Prince won the oscar, but 2 be nominated is fine with we. I love this man so much until I want him 2 win any and everything only because he deserves it. Prince is the MAN

I haven't heard the song but if it's up for an award it must be boring as hell. Andy is a four letter word.

Song of the Heart is a very nice tune that makes one wanna dance around like a lil' kid and be happy, but I really can't see it as Oscar material. Purple Rain: yes. Springsteen's Streets of Philadelphia: yes. Song of the Heart:
But hey, I never thought that It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp would even get nominated, so Anyway, if P wins I won't go around complaining [Edited 12/9/06 15:15pm]

this is the least excited i've ever been about a prince song, but i hope it gets nominated, just so the possibility will exist that he'll perform it on the oscars. maybe he'll dress the twinz up in little penguin costumes and have them do the sexy waddle.

i'd much prefer Savion Glover perform the song... Space for sale...

It has to be "O Kazakhstan" from "Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan"
If Prince does won an Oscar for this (yeah, right) can you imagine the drivel he'd produce in the future. Yeah, I like the song in context but compared to the wealth of great Prince songs - naaahhhh! I say, let's start a petition so he doesn't win Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.

Just like how every Prince fans talks about their passionate love for Slow Love because it's on SOTT, right? Err, wait a minute... retarded theory alert The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It's nice and all if he gets the nod but I'm still mad that no songs from Purple Rain or Batman were even nominated for this stupid category. Why should he get nominated for this song and not the others(although he won for best score). This is what I call the Whoopi Goldberg effect. You don't get the trophy for the true performance you should've won for but, you get one later for a complimentary performance. That's a whole lot of bull if you ask me? Good luck anyway. Peace and be wild!

I don't get all the 'congrats to Prince' stuff. All this article says is that the song is ELIGIBLE to be nominated, not that it IS nominated. It's just a listing of all the songs that appeared in films this year that meet the requirements for nomination. [Edited 12/10/06 8:19am]
