Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2010 (Revolution) Has anyone given the idea that Prince my get a 2nd induction in to the HOF in 2010? that is when Prince and the Revolution will be eligible. if so might we expect something MAJOR that year? (note: I know that "and the Revolution" was on the 1999 cover but it was not marketed as such, it was just part of the art work so i do not think it will be considered as a "revolution" album)

I doubt a second induction would emerge on that basis. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

No...that may happen. The Beatles were inducted as a band, and each other members were inducted as solo artists. You never know... "The little 1 will escort u 2 the places within ur mind"

The same with Micahel Jackson. First w/ The Jackson 5 and then his solo induction.

Unlikely to happen, since in most peoples eyes Prince=PATR=NPG=Symbol, and the Revolution are just a backing band.
I doubt Wings will ever get inducted either.

Like said above...They were just his backing band. He didn't have 2 give them a name and most of the time his band didn't have a name. It was just "Prince." Trust me The Revolution and the NPG wouldn't be anything if they weren't with Prince....yes I know they had their part but when folks talk about Prince they don't say "remember when Prince was in that band?"

"And here to collect the award, is current touring member of the New Revolution Generation, Tony M."

I doubt it!
The Beatles were The Beatles first, then came solo careers. The Jackson 5 were The Jackson 5 first, then came solo careers. Prince was a soloist and a one man band first, then came Prince and The Revolution, huge difference. [Edited 12/5/06 3:23am]

i'd say there is a 50/50 chance...just because melvoin and coleman have powerplayer legacy dads from within the industry im sure there will be a push for it. Space for sale...

I still doubt it! Powerplayer legacy dads or no powerplayer legacy dads, there are far more deserving people who have contributed far more to Rock and Roll than Melvoin and Coleman that aren't in the RRHOF. Before they let them in, they'd better open the doors to a whole lot of folks.

Yeah, I know. Still sucks though for those that really deserve to win.

Prince and the Revolution absolutely DESERVE to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were more than just a backing band, they were a full on BAND. It's been documented. It's just so bizarre to me how people want to downplay their significance here on the org. It's like people actually RESENT The Revolution or something. I mean C'mon. ?uestlove from The ROOTS says that The Revolution was the 'last great band', and he's right. 100% right. Really, what's the problem here?

But let's be fair. The only reason they could have a separate induction would be the name "and the Revolution". The SOTT/Lovesexy band couldn't get a separate induction, because everything released by them was released under the name "Prince", who has already been inducted.

I don't resent The Revolution. They were a good band but tell me what The Revolution has done that's RRHOF worthy.

That would be 2009, not 2010.

If "Prince and The Revolution" get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, then will it be the same as like CSNY? Or Neil Young solo? Or will it be like George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars?
Prince and The Rev could get a nomination, but George Clinton has not gone in as a solo artist, and neither as Parliament or Funkadelic. I believe the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame see Prince and George Clinton more like brand names. Entity names. George and Prince are cut from the same cloth, yes, but at the same time they are the visionaries and "the creativeness" behind their bands. Unlike Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five -- those were two totally different projects from back in the day and that is why MJ is inducted twice. The same thig goes with The Beatles family tree. Do we compare Prince and The Rev along the same lines as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band? No, it's Bruce. It's all Bruce. Now Wendy and Lisa inducted by themselves, as well as Sheila E. -- there is a thought.

That would be interesting cause Sheila is more known for her solo stuff...i wonder if she would get overlooked for that even though she has done a lot of session work. Space for sale...

I don't see the Revolution being inducted. In their most recognized form (Wendy, Lisa, Brown Mark, Dr. Fink, Bobby Z) they were only around for 3 albums. The name "the Revolution" made an appearance on the cover of 1999 but was not credited to them yet. In recorded history, they were around from 1984-1986.
One of the criteria for induction is a lasting impact on the musical world - which most people would (maybe wrongfully) just say is Prince. In that respect, they really did only serve as a backing band. NOW - having said all that: I wholeheartedly believe that Wendy & Lisa will be inducted eventually - they have been very successful with Neil Finn and also their own music scoring.

They were good for the time, but none of them (aside from W&L) have really done anything noteworthy since. I do think that it was only the girls who influenced Prince's music during that time. Don't get me wrong, I love the Revolution. But I love the SOTT band more.
