Just saw this movie again after seeing it in the theater sixteen years ago.

It's a lot better than I remember it.

I think we were all expecting Purple Rain II.

But this was not it. This was a fable.

It showcased so many themes. Love, Hate, Redemption, Sacrifice, Sex, Humor, Music.

Anyway, I live the movie now. Prince and company at their peak.

I thought about how this project presented the first time he allowed other voices on his album.

I thought about how Prince patched things up with the Time and represented a new openess from the almost obscure and impenetrable LoveSexy and the commercial Batman albums.

I thought about how the sets in the movie contributed to the fairy-tale notion of the movie, rather than setting it in the "real-world" location shoots of Purple Rain or the exotic settings of Under the Cherry Moon.

I thought about what it takes to be able to produce, arrange, compose, and perform most, if not all of the songs, and then write and direct a movie based upon the album.

I thought about all of these things as I watched the movie.

I was the biggest Prince fan in my set, but even I thought this movie was a disappointment.

Given all that...it's better than we remember it, simply because it's a 90 minute photograph of people we cared about, when they were at their creative peaks.

sorry, i don't think i will ever like that movie. They were showing footage of GB before the show started at 3121 in Vegas and it was hard to watch but then they were also showing Under the Cherry Moon and I just couldn't stand myself-Lawd he was fine as hell in that movie.

...but I digress.....

I said it before and I'll say it again... there are at least ten good moments in this movie...

I like parts, loathe others... just wish they'd made the original movie instead of this compromise version.

I gave it another go recently and still couldn't enjoy it. Cherry Moon I can although it's got many flaws, but GB is just pants.

It's the greatest unintentional comedy of the 20th Century.

I recently bought GB on DVD, because it was available. I tried to clear out all the failed expectations.

The lack of reality and Prince's inability to put together a coherent theme and dialogue were frustrating. Maybe if I were 10 or 12 years old it would have been ok.
It is great videos for all the songs

If I try and watch it for the story line, the movie falls flat. But it's fun to watch just to see Prince and Morris Day goofing around.

The premise of the movie is a little too generic, a good guy, a bad guy, and a love interest/muse, good wins over evil in the end, yadda yadda.

The hot pepper scene in the beginning is silly, as is the makeout scene where he realizes he kissed a guy. Tick Tick Bang is unintentionally hilarious. And when Morris and Prince get into it, Prince gets whooped.

When this movie came out, I was unemployed and really hurtin' for dough. I spent what little I had to see Graffiti Bridge because I was a huge Prince fan and thought the movie would cheer me up.

Not only did the movie suck, I ate ramen noodles for a week because they were only $.25 a package and that was all I could afford after going to a full-price movie.

Ah, yes...good times...

The movie sucks,plain and simple

Prince might be a musical genuis but he is not a storyteller,or a director.He really should have brought in a skilled director for this project,and maybe wrote the storyline with a skilled screenwriter.This movie is filled with unintentional funny scenes,atrocious acting,stupid lines,and a non-existent plot.Furthermore,I don't even think the music is that great.This project is best-forgotten.

Oh god, do I love this movie.

It's my favorite Prince album and the funniest Prince movie of them all. Oh my god, I hope Sam and Chad play it on Sunday night. It always makes me laugh out loud and then I cheer when Aura's ass gets bumped off.


Good times.

The movie has no redeeming qualities whatsoever... I pity whoever decides to see it for the first time or... see it in order to give it a second chance, LOL...

At least musically the Graffiti Bridge project contains some of P's strongest material as well as inspired moments from some of his proteges... hell, even the outtakes from this were fun ("don't you want me to stick it in?", courtesy of Jerome)

Top tip: check out the outtake version of "My Summertime Thang" because it has P playing some very inspired guitar and keyboard licks all over the place. If you love the xtended version of "Sexy Dancer" then you will love this as well.

A New Appreciation? There was never an old one .

This movie shitted on all the greatness he had achieved in the past. Fucked the Purple Rain myth up. Last time on Dynasty we saw Morris clappin to the kids triumphant perfomrance and Billy shakin his head yes while biting his lip. Not exactly a fantasy flick but the ending left that Xanadu type feeling that music had klifted everyone to the sky just like at the end of Grease.

Fast forward to 1990 and Graffitti Bridge has Billy dead and Morris still an ass like he never was getting down to Baby Im A Star vying for a club from a still struggling Kid..
