This movie shitted on all the greatness he had achieved in the past. Fucked the Purple Rain myth up. Last time on Dynasty we saw Morris clappin to the kids triumphant perfomrance and Billy shakin his head yes while biting his lip. Not exactly a fantasy flick but the ending left that Xanadu type feeling that music had klifted everyone to the sky just like at the end of Grease. Fast forward to 1990 and Graffitti Bridge has Billy dead and Morris still an ass like he never was getting down to Baby Im A Star vying for a club from a still struggling Kid.. Balderdash I say. Balderdash. LOL, Yeah, I know, I know. I guess I'm just nostalgic for that old Prince. Graffiti Bridge the movie represented the beginning of the end for his 80's greatness--the horrible 90's when he changed his name, wrote SLAVE on his face, got Tony M, lost a hundred pounds, and adopted the assless pants. When sometimes you would *cringe* at what came out next. For every, "My name is Prince" and "Sexy Muthafuqa" you would have a "Jughead" or some other atrocity. If nothing else, Graffiti Bridge showed Prince at some of his sexiest and baddest. The Question of U. New Power Generation. His best dancing ever in Thieves in the Temple. Prince on a motorcycle again. It was a visual treat. Plot? Dialogue? Sets? Ummm....not so much.

Yeah you're right about GB being a look at the crap to come save for TGE of course and other exmaples you gave. I guess there is some notalgia to GB,but "his best dancing was Thieves In The Temple?" I agree.As a sequel to 'Purple Rain',GB fails miserably.I really think there could have been a great sequel,if Prince had filmed it earlier (maybe 1986?),used the same director (Albert Magnoli),and used a more realistic storyline. | |

I'm thinking Graffiti Bridge represents the bridge between now and the after-life - and it's all decorated and musically joyful - just like the proverbial road of life should be.
