the dawn Old news, but so late am I... What is "the dawn"?
Seen as "May u live 2 c the dawn", etc. I remember speculations back in the day that it was gonna be a movie, but we know now that's not true. So, wtf was Prince talkin' about?... seein the dawn? | |

The DAWN...
The golden awakening of the spirit. Remembrance of what is truth and what is illusional lies of a manmade system. Spiritual awakening (dawning) with the power of IHVH thru the son / sun. It started life as just a phrase, just meaning; "may you're dreams come true",
"peace be upon you", "live long and prosper" etc. It was just Prince's way of saying "may you live to see better days". It later changed meaning slightly from just a general well wishing phrase to an actual record or event when Prince considered making an album called "The Dawn". He made several attempts to put together an album called "The Dawn" over the years, and the phrase and album also became connected with the whole name change and freedom issue in 93/94. However, due to the longevity of the phrase, Prince has always felt that any record released with the title "The Dawn" needed to be nothing less than the absolute pinnacle and masterpiece of his career. Which is a pretty tall order for an album to fulfill, and explains why no such album has appeared so far. So in summary, first it was just a saying. Then it became a potential album (around '86) Then it became a potential musical as well (which eventually turned into Graffiti Bridge) Then it became a potential (triple) album again around '93 (this was what all the TGE NPG Operators segues were originally recorded for) Then it became an event to mark  's arrival
(which turned into just an aftershow party: see The Sacrifice Of Victor) Then it became a potential album again (which was going to be the follow-up to Emancipation. One track from this was then later used on 'The Truth' album in '97) "The Dawn" still hovers on the backburner as a potential release even now. [Edited 11/25/06 5:41am] | |
