That was also my first association when I heard that horrible song for the first (and the last!) time. Yuk Prince!!! agreed, and for him to then accuse Lenny of stealing it from him is even worse. It's lyrics like that that make me wonder about Prince's sanity. When I heard Diamonds & Pearls I figured it must be some kind of metaphor, because he couldn't be writing such cliche lyrics. Hey now! Let me put "Where Ever You Go, What Ever You Do" in perspective. Think of "Cream". How cool did that song become after Prince told you he wrote it while looking in the mirror? How cool is it when YOU sing it while looking in the mirror? OK, think of WEYGWEYD as being sung to a child. If you have a child, sing it to them. It will become the coolest song ever. No, really.

Thieves in the Temple "Love come quick" = "Say, say, say" yes, WDYWMTD is prince being prince, but the chords actually sound like the MJ or Stevie song (I forget who did it but I'm pretty sure MJ sings on it) I'm only half serious about this stuff, don't let it bug you. that might explain the cliche lyrics. I think of it as being sung to Mayte, but I guess it's six of one, half dozen of the other. My Legacy

I'm surprised you didn't mention Purple Rain--Purple Haze Taking in the context of the lyrics in 3121, he's refering to it being like a suite. And once u have entered, "You can never leave". Which is obviously what "Hotel California" is about. Hence the use of P using the phrase. Nobody else was talking about undercutting the examples given by resorting to something like "It" being in a million other song titles. And I didn't have to mention Purple Haze cuz everybody has already seen me refer to that in other threads already. That one is a given. Like P intended it to be. Actually the Eagles example isn't that bad. Though Prince's is meant in a positive way (like 3121 will change your life) and the eagles was negative (the hotel will kill you), they are similar in spirit & phrasing. Some of your other examples, however, like "Mommy" & "don't worry" are stretching "It" (which was only a joke after all). My Legacy

"mommy, why does everybody have a bomb? from "mommy, what's a Funkadelic?" and "Don't worry' If there's a hell below" to "Don't worry, I won't hurt u", to me, are waaay more blatant than the "You can never leave." I don't even want in on this.
Translation: "Naw man, you don't want me on the mic." Well, just one: "Judas Smile" is a blatant ripoff of Michael Jackson's "2 Bad" Blatant. "Listen to the rhythm." That's it. I'm done. [Edited 11/28/06 16:05pm]

Say it one more time (Love me) Hey yeah, oh Lord (Love me) The internet has drank the kool-aid!!! Interesting. You know I have great respect for religeous conversions and you know I have respect for faith. But I never have understood why an artist for any reason wants to censor their former selves. If you ever read the auto biography of Malcom X one of the things that so refreshing about his conversion (and relateable) is the fact he doesn't hide from or try to hide his past. Years ago my Dad (who is a minister) started writing this wonderful novel about a young black kid growing up in a working class black neighborhood. It was an awesome book! He shared it with me when I was in highschool and it was great to hear all the swearing and funny things that young men talk about. He decided he would re-write it a few years ago and started taking out all the bad language. I said whats the point. Its where you were then not now. Your only being dishonest by doing that. Why can't "Sexuality" be a celebration of where Prince was then. I mean how else can we truly measure the growth. Maybe some sex crazed teen needs to hear Sexuality (something they can relate too) to help them better understand the rainbow children. Its deep but I have to admit I don't know how happy I would have been hearing that either. Its just like when I bought the Star Wars trilogy on DVD and when I get to the end of "Return of the Jedi" and they have Haden Christenson in where David Powell was next to Yoda and Obi Wan. GEEZE was I pissed. Hey that still pisses me off because it adds nothing to the film. Anyway I love Star Wars and Prince anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. But thanks for the insight and thanks for the song lyrics. [Edited 11/29/06 0:07am] THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!!
