I don't believe that he and Sheila were engaged. She didn't say in that article that they were, she said that their breaking up was like a divorce.
When, exactly, would he have had time to be engaged to Sheila? While he was seeing just about every female we know to have been around at that time? I think Sheila is smarter than that. I don't think they ever had much more than a fling. Smooches;) | |

Are you sure you're not referring to Cat? In 1994,she spotted Prince and Mayte at Glam Slam in Los Angeles.She went up to them,looked at Prince and said "I like the two of you dancing together,but it will never compare to what you and I had".Prince took offense at this comment and Cat was escorted away. Where did you hear this? | |

I recall another article from the mid-90s where Sheila mentioned that she was engaged to Prince in 1988.This article is different than the one that was posted in this thread.She said that she didn't marry him because "there were too many other women hanging around",implying that Prince wasn't truly ready to commit to one woman. | |

Well as I said before only they know what is going on among themselves and only Sheila knows what is her sexual preference if she has any. I know few people who are asexual (not interested in neither gender). I think she is married to her bongos, drums and that whole percussion shaban and don't blame her at all and if this is the case she is playing it very safe....I rest my case | |

Did anyone hear the story of Miko (I think it him, the guitar player during Lovesexy) who said he was going to write a book about Prince and Shelia? they were definitely involved romantically. unlike some of the other women he has been involved with, he has the utmost respect for her as a musician and they have a lot in common. sheila also happens to be a beautiful person. the musical legacy of her family is incredible. look back to the musicians prince has had in his bands, sheila has introduced him to a lot of them. her song 'who's taking care of you?', was about prince. | |

That's what I read too. That being said...you can't believe everything you read. I don't think that Prince and Sheila were ever engaged. It is possible to be very good friends with the opposite sex and not ever sleep with them. Also, I would like to add that Sheila seems like a very strong, secure and Godly woman...I really like her. I sent an email to her through her site, and besides the typical "do-not-reply" form email in response, she also sent me a personal email, which made me like her even more. | |

A couple years ago, Sheila played a few shows at La Va Lee in L.A. There were a couple screens behind her playing old videos, her Soul Train performance, etc. At one point, the Escovedo family came up to play and her dad took the mike and, pointing back to the screen, said, "And to think, I almost had Prince for a son-in-law." Sheila and her brother shushed their dad really quickly and Pete said no more. I don't know if that "proves" they were engaged, but I believe it. | |
