"Prince, the most versatile pop star of all times"

Fact!!!
prince comes at us with a totally original/different style of music, fashon, attitude, back up dancers(girls,Cat,D&P,Twins...)with every release...he's able to change his look with each new release consistently without repeating himself(his eras)...can anyone name another pop star who matches up in these areas?

who are you quoting, yourself? that is lamer than speaking of yourself in the third person.

and I am not quite sure something that is subjective can be a fact...unless it is 3232 is weiner.

Tremendously versatile, Prince is, but he's not alone... Go look up, as suggested, Mr Zappa, Stevie, Madonna, Springsteen, Homme, Depeche Mode, blimey, even a young Michael.

There's tonnes of versatility out there... Prince is just an extremely talented member of quite a select club.

yeah but what the hell does the general public know anyway shrug
I think madonna tries very hard to be versatile but doesn't succeed.

given what the poster listed. I agree.

Yes, Frank Zappa was VERY versatile and extremely talented but as far as say even just the fashion aspect...well ahh, Frank pretty much always (from what I've ever seen wore t-shirts, and had the same hair-do and mustache (until nearing the end)...which is cool, I'm not putting that down in any way...just saying..it's not very versatile in the fashion scheme of things.

Madonna is very versatile in the fashion sense and she is great at re-inventing her image but...come on now...she's NOT musically versatile...like Prince is.

Stevie...very very talented man, love him...but again...Not that versatile in the scheme of things.

Springsteen??? Love him but...NOT versatile in fashion, image, or music...pretty much a rock/folk/rock stick to it kinda dude. again...love him but...not so much in the versatility department.

Depeche Mode...confused cool and all but...not sure why they are even listed here

young michael? I can't even comment on that one. neutral
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

What does versatility mean then? I'm all a bit confused...

Zappa & Stevie & Homme all multi-instrumentalists.
Springsteen altered his sound (successfully) a number of times through his career - though, I agree, he has retained his blue-collar attitude.
Madonna - not so much music, more style, appearance etc... gives great show.
Also Young Michael - not so much musically, but great showman.
Depeche Mode have gone from trite'n'lite synth-pop in the 80s through goth/industrial in early 90s to just plain superb nowadays.

What's versatility?

No one else in my opinion including Frank could come up with as many different hair styles including one called the typhoon. P comes at us with the most versatile arsenal of weapons I have ever seen. He designs his own clothes, owns his own studio, designs his instruments, writes, composes, plays and performs his own music. His range is varied ranging from polka (lovesexy) to rock and roll to funk. Just his look is as varied as his music. He has also created a unique world that revolves around religion, universal love and funk for all. Movies can also be added to his biography although I personally wouldn't list him as a director. But his influence is many times understated having influenced a whole genre from the 80's to today. What megastar of 84 had the best selling tour of 04? He is influential today and become inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame as soon as he was eligible. His is often critcially accaimed when the public doesn't care for him and often is #1 when critics think he is too pop. There is a reason he is the most bootlegged of all, because his pop is the one that moves us! biggrin

add in an academy award, and one hit "bio" film. And add in the number of circulating studio songs, number of penned hits released by others, and number of albums released, and you have a rough draft of some liner notes for a comprehensive retrospective.
