What was the very first song of his you heard?

I think the very first song I heard was "kiss" from the parade album.

I Wanna Be Your Lover on the radio back in 79. Was this one on a K-Tel record too back then??(hey old schoolers...remember THOSE???) Anyway I definitely heard it on the radio back then. Although I wasn't a fan 'til I heard Little Red Corvette a few years later.

I remember K-Tel records! I also remember saving my money to go grocery shopping with my mom on Saturdays because the supermarket sold 45s for like, 79 cents a piece, in racks above the shelves in the aisles! I had a hot pink box with a handle that I carried them in! (damn, I feel old just typing that! doh!)

[But wait- I still have that box! lol]

My parents played me "Raspberry Beret" because they both love that one...I wasn't super impressed until the album got around to "Temptation" razz

My first Prince song? Soft and Wet. I remember an ad in Jet magazine of Princes debut album and a picture of him with this HUGE afro and my sisters saying how "fine" he was.

the first song I truly remember was partyman in Batman...I remember seeing the movie I was maybe 10 years old....and crazy for the Joker and Kim Bassinger was just so beautiful ...I kept talking about the song so my dad finally bought me the soundtrack...what a day biggrin and then my mother told me that it was also prince who made rasberry beret which I loved when I was younger...so they realised I was a prince fan LOL ... and my prince collection started...

"I Wanna Be Your Lover" on the radio and at the rollerskating rink. I didn't know who was Prince was and that was one of his songs until a couple of years later during the "1999" album period.

ditto me on that too.

My discovery went like this

1999-Dirty Mind-Controversy-Prince-For You. Finally the summer after Purple Rain(on its release date). Purple Rain was easily one of my most anticipated albums ever. It was a Prince summer of love/discovery that summer when 1999 came out. Tis the reason 1999 will always be special to me.

But when I got to the Prince album and heard "I wanna be your lover" it dawned on my that I was listening to Prince 4-5 years earlier and never put 2 & 2 together. I would have been 9 or 10 in 79 when I first heard it.

Partyman, from watching Batman. Loved it, but had no clue who it was, and didn't give a damn. I was just five.

I was at home in the living room watching the BET Awards 06. Prince performed the song 3121. It caught my attention. Here we are now.

Lady Cab Driver. 6th Grade. My friend Tyrus Williams brought in the 1999 album for the last day of school. I brought in Thriller, and I remember trying to trade him albums by the end of the day. Smart man, that Tyrus, he kept 1999.

I had those K-tel records also. I think it was either on one called Soundwaves or Nightflight.
I Wanna Be Your Lover was the first Prince song I heard also.
