The first song I remember hearing was Kiss; I remember exactly where I was and how I heard it--my friend Stacy had brought her "boom box" to school and was blasting it on the playground. Hey, it was the 80s! biggrin I thought 'who is the guy singing in that high pitched voice?' but I loved the song instantly.

It's odd,I don't recall hearing this song back in 1978,even though I listened to our local R&B station all the time back then.I guess,in my area, the song didn't get much airplay.

1999. It was around Christmas 1983 and I had seen parts of the video to Little Red Corvette and asked who the man in the high heeled boots was but when I heard this song, it grabbed me. The beat sounded so futuristic to me and I really liked it. Who knew that I'd love the same dude 23 years later? Amazing.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I remember K-Tel, wow all those "tinny sounding" songs!

Hmmm, I think I heard I Wanna Be Your Lover first, but I thought it was Sylvester at the time. The first recognized Prince song was "Head".

You've got a good memory. I had "I Wanna Be Your Lover" on a 45 but, there was a girl at school that brought her K-Tel album for the music teacher to play and "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was on it. I remember "The Second Time Around" by Shalamar being on that same album.

I first heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover" on pop radio and didn't switch to R&B radio until disco died in 1979. I never heard "Soft and Wet" until 1981 when the DJ did a Prince double-play...."Controversy/Soft and Wet". During that time, I asked around to all my friends who had been into R&B radio before I was and they had never heard it either. I guess it didn't get any airplay in my area in 1978 either.
