SenseOfDoubt

thanks for the list Boris. Were Scarlet Pussy/Feel U Up Batman B-Sides?

I am glad that we finally have some of the extendes versions in perfect sound quality due to Ultimate. On the other hand... we need a box seT. SHIT - goddamn, prince, get off your ass and jam!

But maybe Ultimate has diminished the chances of seeing a Boxset? Who knows.

edit: we dont need box sex, we need a box set...

Because they were never officially released by Prince and they are not
ottakes either. They were made up by fans... hence they are "fakes".

Yeah, these are all faked up by fans or dj's. I've heard them, and they are obviously fakes, simply looping instrumental parts of the song for extra time. They can be found on bootlegs also, like Ultra Rare Trax 1 & 2. Or if they don't sound like fakes, you could have downloaded a soundboard live version or rehearsal version of the song or something.

Yeah, these lists are good. If you want the real extended version and full b-sides seek out only the stuff mentioned on these two lists. And on vinyl if you can (it's the only way with some of these) and CD for the rest.

I'm quite happy with the way the albums are, but the extended versions often due improve on some of the songs themselves. I could see the dance remix of "Little Red Corvette" fitting well on the 1999 album, but that 1-2-3 punch of the first three songs may not be as hefty if the extended was included.
[Edited 11/4/06 4:23am]

the other problem being that the extended version didn't exist until after the album was out.

Indeed. I just think that in certain ways, the dance remix suits the vibe of the whole album better than the album version.

Boris has listed officially released items ... as he stated.

I'm sure the version of the 'Lady Cab Driver' that you isten to on your laptop sounds 'real' - but that doesn't make it 'official' or even an 'unreleased outtake'.

My list was of official releases, none of the tracks you've listed had
officially released extended versions/remixes. Of course there are some
'full length versions' and 'extended remixes' that are indeed genuine, but
Prince has never actually officially released. There's also quite a few
fan-made remixes floating around too.

Here's your list with a few notes...

billy jack bitch - yes there is a longer version that appeared on some of the
earlier configurations of The Gold Experience which leaked into the bootleg
market. It clocks in at about 7:05.

new power generation( 2" to yard) - no official or unreleased version
with this title (though it may just be an offical mix mis-titled, so if you
had a track timing and description that would help in working out whether
this is fan-made or not).

love bizarre - this is actually by Sheila E (featuring Prince), and
it's actually called 'A Love Bizarre' he wrote it of course. There's
a few different 7" and 12" edits of it, but the longest version was the one
included on her Romance 1600 album, which clocks in at 12:18

sign of the times (live studio) - no official or unreleased version
with this title, so it's probably fan made. Or it might be the old Sanny X
DMC remix from 88/89 which was titled 'live and dangerous' and clocks in at
about 6:00.

somebodys sombody(live studio) - officially released on promo, and also
commercially as the b-side to 'The Holy River'. it's called the 'Livestudio mix'
and clocks in at 3:47

insatiable - there is an unreleased longer version, from an early
configuration of the 'Diamonds and Pearls' album. It clocks in at about 8:05

delirious - there is an early unreleased mix of this from the 1999
sessions which clocks in at about 6:04

i hate u - there's a few officially released edits and mixes of this track,
so I'd need a track timing and a bit of a description to know which one it is

darling nikki(unreleased version) - there's a slightly longer unreleased
version from an early incarnation of the 'Purple Rain' album which clocks in
at about 4:45

beautiful one(unreleased; has extra guitar at end) - there's a slightly
longer unreleased version from an early incarnation of the 'Purple Rain' album
which clocks in at about 6:09. It doesn't have 'extra guitar' though, it just
includes an extended part of the spoken part near the end which was edited
down for the album release.

+ i have an 11 min 33 sec lady cab driver and it sure sounds real
it's not. The longest official or unreleased version is the album version
which clocks in at about 8:25

yes your almost 100% correct.

the version of sign of the times i have is real. Prince asks the engineer if they are ready then he plays a little guitar before the beat comes on! It's a live studio mix probably leaked by someone at PP!

It really doesn't help informing us that the version is 'real' - the term is meaningless except in the sense that you are listening to something that exists as opposed to imagining it in your head. No-one doubts that you have downloads on your laptop which have titles.

In the case of 'Sign O' The Times (Live Studio)', if what you can hear at the beginning is Prince saying:

"Are we ready?"

"Aweful lot of noise"

"Let me know"

... then this is most likely to be a bootleg recording of a 1987 'Sign O' The Times' tour rehearsal at Paisley Park in April before rehearsals transferred to Birmingham, England.

MikeK, I think it wouldn't hurt you to have a little more trust in what people are answering to your questions. When you react "no it's not" after they have answered your questions, that itches with me. They obviously have more and better knowledge than someone who has downloaded a lot and thinks he knows his stuff because of that.

Well, it's not really an extended mix, but there is a slightly longer version of "Baby I'm A Star." The original recording from the 8-3-83 show that was used on Purple Rain has a little bit more of the intro beat, with Prince saying "There's a party in here tonight!" Yeah, not really an extended version, but I used this longer take when I made a "deluxe" version of the Purple Rain album.

Dudes! I think people are getting mixed up between live concert, rehearsal, official and fake tracks! Stick to Boris' comments and you'll be right, what he's saying is spot on. It is possible you have downloaded a clean soundboard concert or rehearsal song thinking it's a studio version and are fooled. I've actually seen bootlegs with mixes like "Baby Im A Star - long version" and when I've played it it's just been a soundboard from a concert, so it does sound like an "official" track (as opposed to a DJ made fan mix), but it's not an "extended version".

Next there'll be a thread about the rare "1999: Diving With The Whales" remix, and how it should have been on the album!

the version of sign of the times i have is real. Prince asks the engineer if they are ready then he plays a little guitar before the beat comes on! It's a live studio mix probably leaked by someone at PP!

Heard the ureleleased version of the beautiful ones, and the extended spoken words/cries are amazing, and i have not listened to the album version ever since

Why record stuff like that and decide not to release it. It simply gives engineers/aides incentives to smuggle them out one way or another cos fans are always on the lookout for alternative versions of songs.
I never even thought for one sec that the version was unreleased and therefore illegal to own,
