This is fun.

- The Revolution was WAY overrated. Anybody could've played that stuff.

- The Purple Rain tour was a bit of a letdown because he copped all of his dance moves straight from the movie

- Purple Rain is NOT a particualrly good film

- UTCM was awful

- The Batman album was a sellout

- I hate nearly all of his bimbo female proteges. Just because they're hot, doesn't mean they're artists. He should know that.

- Don't like "Condition of the Heart" or "When 2 r in Love"

- I enjoy some of his "rap" type efforts

- NPS and Rave have their moments

- I like the songs "New Power Generation", "Dance On" and "Silicon"

- I could care less about his personal life

- I could care less how many albums he sells on the charts

- I hate the way ballad/medley portions of his shows and when he has the audience sing the lyrics.

- Very often, i find him hypocritical

- The symbol guitar is BADASS

- I only like 3 songs off of The Truth

- 1999 is still my favorite album

- I thought the name change was cool

- I don't own "For You", and don't have "Controversy" on CD

-Emancipation was crap.
-During my 'non-Prince' phase I threw away all my Prince videos
-One Nite Alone is the most boring album I've ever heard, all the songs sound the same. I would rather listen to NPS. eek
-I have never seen UTCM
-IMO the majority of outtakes circulating (on bootleg) are mediocore at best.
-I don't care what is in the vault.
-I really like the Batman album

Wow, this is fun!

I love the symbol cd and Tony's rap.

My name is Prince is one of my favourite funky songs

I love TRC, even though I am not religous and hate all the JW crap.

I do not like any of his protege's except for Sheila.

I love the Batman soundtrack

I believe he doesn't really know what religion he wants to follow.

I predict he will leave the JW's and find another he thinks he should follwo.

I wish he would stop being so cryptic all the time. Just speak english man.

I wish he would just release his music through a proper distributer instead of the music club.

Last but not least, he better release the 3 cd box set to everyone or I will be furious!

O.K here we go, here we go...

* I don't like the NPS cd I thought the lyrics was a bit beneath him, a bit juvenile, he put no thought into them.sad

*Rave, Batman, and Gold Experience could've been better, neither of them were funky and I thought they were trying too hard to be commercial hits, especially Rave.sad

*I didn't like that alot of other cities got two, three nights alone with Prince, but NY got one.mad What insane person does one concert in New York?( Oh yeah, we are talking about Prince).

*I really don't see the big umph in Wendy and Lisa. Maybe I'm missing something here.confused If I can recall correctly it was Prince and the Revolution and Wendy and Lisa made up part of the Revolution... It wasn't Prince, Wendy and Lisa and the Revolution. Oh they were sooo overrated.

*I don't think that any of his previous girlfriends had any talent.(for Prince that means outside the bedroom).redface Although I did like Sheila E.

*I don't think he had any idea what fashion was before 1990. From then to now he developed an eye for style, I love his clothes (maybe because I'm a fashion designer).

* I don't like the fact that he got married, twice, and it wasn't to me. (eek did I say that out loud?)

THE MOST BLAPHEMOUS LIST IN THE WORLD

1. I don't own Soft and Wet AND Prince...

2. I EDITED Small Club (not for my own use, though -- for a friend who has little patience for jams).

3. I gave the same friend a cd entitled -- are you sitting down? -- The Rainbow Children Lite.

4. When 1999 was first issued on cd without DMSR, I just sighed instead of throwing a fit.

5. I waited 20 YEARS to see Prince in concert.

6. One concert I did not attend was TWO BLOCKS AWAY FROM WHERE I lIVE!

7. The first time I heard When Doves Cry, I WAS DISAPPOINTED.

8. In fact, I first thought Purple Rain - the album - was a step in the WRONG DIRECTION.

9. It took me A COUPLE OF WEEKS to like ADORE.

10. As revealed on another thread, I MADE A "RADIO EDIT" OF ALL MY DREAMS.

Pagey

I don't own the 1st three albums (yep no Dirty Mind).

Love Batman, Come, NPS, Rave, C&D & think the Symbol album sucks ass (I stopped listening to him for awhile after that one...I had no idea Come, The Black Album, and TGE came out until about 2 years after...I went to the Jam of The Year concert and that got me back into his stuff).

Miss the WB days. Wish he'd go back with them and release an album the 'ol fashion way.

Emancipation would have been a great double album...and an AWESOME single album.

I hated the way he looked during the PR era, he too closely resembled Boy George back then...agree...much better look during Parade...also the Lovesexy album cover was one the biggest mistakes me made in his career. I didn't want to see Prince naked and obviously not many others did either...too bad too because it overshadowed a great record.

Think the song "New Power Generation" is a kick-ass tune.

Couldn't give a shit about his personal life.

The only Time album I own is "What Time Is It?"...

Never liked ATWIAD very much...has highlights...but overall its kinda depressing.

Think he should have sang on "We Are The World".

Like "The Ball" more than "Eye No".

Like many of his outtakes more than his released stuff...the 86 version of We Can Funk is WAY better than the version on Graffiti Bridge.

There is more but I can't think of any at the moment...

OK its time to unleash the Funk. Warning if your easily offended (IE ESSENCE) then please dont read the following:

The Rainbow Children is the worse Album Prince has ever been associated with.

I think that Prince needs a good Ass Kickin to get his shit back on track. You would be surprised how eye opening a good ass kickin can be for a person.

I think that Larry Graham is the antichrist (and yes you can quote me on that).

I didn`t like Emancipation. It was wayyy overrated. PERIOD.

I didnt like the idea that Prince dumped Mayte for Larry Graham. Mayte had a much better rack!

I didn`t like the ONA rip off CD.

I hate people who think they are fams. One word for you people "BRAIN-FUCKING-WASHED".

I didnt like the NPGMC monthly audio shows. But now that they are gone I kinda miss them.

I hate the whole JW thing. BORING BORING BORING. Prince I got one word for you: PAGEN! St. Peter isnt going to let you into the pearly gates when you die bro!!!

Like others here, I also think the influence of Wendy and Lisa is way overrated.

I dont own For You on CD and have no desire to.

I do not think Small Club is the best boot around.

I HATE Tick Tick Bang Bang.

I thing The Gold experience is overrated by fans (although I like it)

The Symbol album was his best of the 90's.

I think the Love for One Another tour was pretty dull (for him).

I dont hate Larry Graham and could not give a shit about princes religious choices or private life.

I like most of Emancipation even though the production on the album is tired.

I dont mind the slowed down Bob George voice on TRC.

I think TRC is his best album since 1987.

I hate the frickin ugly symbol guitar too.

I hate Princes stupid facial hair thing, especially that god awful thing he had going in the Gold era.

I think prince is about the worst businessman I have ever seen and that if his fans wern't so fanatical and loyal he would be broke.

I dont think Susannah was very attractive.

Crystal Ball was a hotch potch but overall I'm quite happy with it.

I think Maceo Parker is a better saxaphonist than Eric Leeds.
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I don't think it's really that uncommon to have felt that way back then. I didn't immediately know what to make of "Doves" and when I listened to the PR album the first couple of times it didn't register any predictable responses of joy from me either. My brother who is/was also a huge Prince fan felt the same way at the time. I guess that's because it really was a left field album, no matter how familiar it is to us almost 20 years later. It took a short while to sink in. But since it went platinum on the first day of release maybe it's just not uncommon for the select few who couldn't figure it out.

*I am not a member of the music club

*Purple Rain had some of the worse acting ever

*Princes' head is too big for his body

*I believe that the success of Purple Rain unforunately had Prince longing for some success and the music suffered ie with Batman

Okay, here I'll have a go:

- I think Prince's guitar-playing got quite uninteresting around 1989.

- I paid 2£ for my copy of "Graffiti Bridge"

- In my opinion, New Power Generation is the worst band name EVER.

- John Blackwell is nothing more than an average drummer.

- Prince should learn to sing a little more consistently at his concerts. The guy's been gigging for 23 years, one would think you'd learn that skill by this the time.

Anxiety

I like "For You" about as much as I like "Rave", "NPS" and "TRC", and that ain't a lot. I like the title track and I can tolerate "Soft and Wet", but that's about it.

I thought Prince looked like the Cryptkeeper when he wore that cape to the Oscars. It was a fun move on his part (kinda like Bjork's swan dress and Cher's valkyrie costumes and the South Park guys showing up in drag), but he looked like a creepy little troll.

I can get into "17 Days", but I never understood why so many people got into it as much as they did.

The end of ATWIAD is a mess. I can only listen to it when I'm feeling very patient and really REALLY need to hear some kick-ass guitar among the overblown "conceptual" foolishness. He made his points on spirituality much more effectively on "Lovesexy", in my opinion.

I still don't like "Slow Love", though I love the horn work in it. Listening to that song is a trade-off for me; annoying melodies for catchy hooks.

The "dramatic segues" in the SOTT movie annoy me so much that it's difficult for me to watch the movie all the way through. "Hot Thing" and "ICNTTPOYM" are redeeming factors. I own glasses with the same hoop design as was on Prince's outfit (and the lighting design) during the "Hot Thing" scene. I accidentally broke one of them a few months ago.

I think "Batdance" is a fun song, and I was happy to see him put out such a fluffy, mindless song for the sake of making a few bucks off the Batman franchise. Good for him. Same goes for "Partyman".

I think "Bambi" is about playerhatin'. Okay, maybe that one's obvious.

Although I love many of the songs on the Symbol album, the whole thing, overall, reeks of negativity and material obsession. Maybe the point was to be a commentary/satire of materialist obsession, but it came off as bitter, smug and gaudy.

I don't see any special artistic significance in "The Gold Experience". It was an okay album; better than a lot of what came after it - but it sounded like Prince's spin on Vegas-era Elvis to me. Overblown, excessive, tacky. Not to say there aren't many, many moments on the album I don't like. Quite the contrary. I just don't get the hubbub.

I can't listen to Disc II on "Emancipation". I didn't like it when the album came out, and now it's just depressing - a record of a marriage that failed and a child that never was. All the hope on that disc just sounds sad.

I still like "The Human Body" - it reminds me just a little bit of Lords of Acid by way of the Batman soundtrack.

NPS...well, heh, you know...oof.

I like "The Truth", but I'm convinced that Prince wouldn't know how to make a true acoustic album if the idea smacked him in the ass. Of course, I haven't heard ONA yet, but considering my track record with NPGMC thus far, I doubt I ever will.

RAVE marked the beginning of a commitment to disappointing fans.

I think TRC's appeal has more to do with wishful thinking rather than actual accomplishment. There's only enough "breakthrough" material on that album to show us that he still has what it takes, but not enough to convince us that he has the wherewithall to share it.

I listened to "The Future" yesterday and was amazed at how strong and bold and confident his vocals were, and how sharp-as-a-tack the music sounded. I miss that strength and focus. Ditto "Thunder". These songs channel a straightforward strength that I haven't heard in a long time.

UTCM may have been the most joyous project Prince ever did. Maybe not the best, maybe not the most coherent, but maybe the most infectuously giddy, silly and happy. "Christopher Tracy's Parade", to me, is still the audio equivalent of opening a window on a crisp spring day. "Parade" is one of the happiest albums I can think of, even though "Sometimes It Snows In April" is one of the saddest songs he's recorded.

Well, I'm sure that's enough to get me flamed, slammed and all around beaten to a pulp. Merry Christmas.

Well, I'm not at all convinced that John Blackwell is that brilliant a drummer, but that's just a personal opinion.

...and "consistent" is just a nicer, more approachable expression for plain lazy singing. He misses the notes a bit too much these days (altough to somebody he's probably just "strectching out") that is when he is singing and not expecting the crowd to fill in the gaps. Like the entire chorus of every second song performed.

This reminds me of what Steve Harvey was ranting about in "Kings of Comedy" about audience participation at rap concerts - "I didn't pay all this money to come here and help you out - don't tell me to scream; YOU scream, dammit!"

This is a cool thread. If I may add:

I don't own GoldNigga but if it was still out I would buy it

I love the Symbol album and I think it was his most underrated CD

I don't listen to Emancipation Disc 2 because it's boring and I think that Emancipation Disc 3 is the best disc out of the 3 CD's

Come to think of it, Emancipation is probably one of his more dated-sounding albums ever along with his first 2 albums

Prince shouldn't put remade songs on his albums anymore

Rave should have been better than it was

High should have been released

I've never heard all of When I Lay my Hands on U

I love TRC but I hardly listen to it. I have to be in the mood to listen to it and if it hit's me I'll only listen to 1+1+1=3.

Prince needs to go back to WB or any major label for that matter.

It took me years to like ATWIAD, SOTT and Lovesexy

I love the song New Power Generation

I don't think the name change killed his commercial appeal, I think it was when he wrote SLAVE on his face that people started to ignore him

I think that Prince will be big again somewhere in the next couple of years if not sooner
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
