Has Prince renounced the music he made during the Symbol years?

I'm only a casual fan nowadays, but it seems that he never plays anything from the Symbol years live anymore. What's up with that? I think he did some great shit during those years...

Is it just me, or has P abandoned all of the songs from the symbol years? Hell, even TMBGITW wasn't on "Ultimate."

He doesn't play much from those years, that's for sure. Maybe an occasional performance of Shhh, or something like that. That was a tough time for Prince, so maybe he just doesn't care to revisit it.

There's also the fact that he swore a lot more than usual during that time, which doesn't fit with where he's at these days.

At the May 28 Vegas show, he played Dolphin, Don't Play Me (unbelievable version of that), and The Ride. So some of the stuff does make an appearance.

There are many albums he doesn't play many songs from anymore, it's not just the prince years, mostly due to his huge back-catalogue. Like most eras, he plays them at the time, then the next era he may not play any of those songs. The good thing with Prince is that you never know when he is going to completely change his set-list or throw in an oldie. But a lot of those prince songs with were with a specific NPG line-up and maybe he doesn't think the more recent incarnations suited those songs.

Always a good reason to go see Prince live when you can if you like the songs from a present era because there's no guarantee he will continue playing those songs after the current album project is finished.

And yes, Prince has his own rights to TMBGITW and that is why it won't appear on Warner hit compilations. As for the rest of the singles during that time, I guess Warner don't think they were successful or memorable enough to rate inclusion on hits compilations.
