She was; everybody who posted a message said really nice things about her. To Prince and his family at this difficult time. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Completely an individual decision on how/when/where to grieve.
But has anyone considered that one reason he may not attend is for fear of media and fans taking it as a photo op? Sadly enough, folks are crazy and have no respect at times. If he shows up, it becomes a logistical and security nightmare that only adds stress to the situation for all involved. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

There is an article on the net where she spoke to the Minneapolis Star Tribune after their father's death and she said they were estranged and had only spoken once in 14 years, I do not think they were close at all. Also, she got a lawyer to fight Prince for part of the father's estate after he died. She said he brought a check over to her for over "six figures" two months before he died, I don't really like to get into people's personal business that way but it was in the paper.
She is not the sister Prince went to live with in New York, Sharon was the one.

I know he's busy with work but hey, family and friends first. JW's typically don't attend funeral ceremonies. Of course that doesn't mean they don't mourn. How someone chooses to mourn is their business, imho. Who told you this? Jehovah Witnesses DO attend funeral ceremonies, and I should know, I grew up as one My Grandma was not a witness, but when she passed away we did attend her funeral out of respect, and yes, it was in a chruch... for more about JW visit: http://www.watchtower.org [Edited 10/31/06 22:56pm]

I'm sure that the last thing he and the rest of the family would want is to have a crowd of crazy fans and paparazzi at a funeral. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

Funerals are morbid. Dead bodies on display. Who want's their last memory of a loved one to be this morbid picture. I can't blame him for not attending a funeral, the dead person could care less. Memories play an important role in the grieving process - that last image... My prayers are with Prince and his family. Inside of Me, I am Free, Free to be Me.

I understand where ur comin from with that, but sometimes tending 2 and caring 4 terminally ill patients exposes 1 2 very unpleasant images and xperiences also, with similar if not greater consequences in terms of bad memories... As a support service 4 the ill and sometimes xtended family, 1's attendance can have enormous therapeutic/pain relief effects, not 2 mention the opportunity 4 1s own personal development.. Would U not put urself in that situation 4 fear of ur own selfish needs?

Amazing how when u think u cant do something, especially in those circimstances, somehow we gather strength and get thru it. It takes enormous mental strength 2 learn 2 live with something like that, because I dont believe we ever 'get over it'. As usual ur glass can b half empty or half full, depending on how u look at it. I'm sure the happy more positive memories/moments would outweigh the sad 1s. It's just up 2 us mere mortals 2 know xactly on what 2 focus.

I don't think Prince is close with many members of his family; even his relationship with his father was on off. And I don't think even if he wants to he attends funerals because, sad as it is, it might draw fans purely there to get a sight of Prince which would upset the other mourners.

Prince did not attend his father's funeral due to the potential craze caused by fans and the media.
