Oh let's please not turn this into a JW thread.

They are taught not to partake in "unscriptural funeral services" according to watchtower.org

That's all I'm saying on that topic.

Basically everyone is right that has made a comment regarding JW's and funerals.

Typically you won't find a JW go inside another church for a service but they would have no problem going to the viewing if in a funeral home or to the actual burial.

I'm really not sure what unscriptural funeral services would be specifically but I think that is referring to a lot of customs that we might think are 'extreme' in other parts of the world. There's really nothing in the modern western culture that would be considered unscriptural.

The other poster mentioned their grandmother going inside another church for the services... that is just their own personal decision to do and the elders would not say anything on a matter as that. It's a personal decision based on your conscience not a scriptural one.

Again, not arguring or saying anyone is right or wrong. There's just different angles to any situation just like a car wreck. Depending on what side of the street you're on, depends on what specific detail you see something the other doesn't and still everyone is right.

Whether or not Prince had a good relationship with Lorna I'm still sorry for the family's loss.

As others have mentioned, people mourn in their own way. We lead our own lives and in a time of mourning, all people react differently. Regardless of whether or not we understand someone else's actions, we all must be allowed to grieve however we see fit.

Lilith Hi!
Amazing how when u think u cant do something, especially in those circimstances, somehow we gather strength and get thru it.
It takes enormous mental strength 2 learn 2 live with something like that, because I dont believe we ever 'get over it'. As usual ur glass can b half empty or half full, depending on how u look at it.
I'm sure the happy more positive memories/moments would outweigh the sad 1s.
It's just up 2 us mere mortals 2 know xactly on what 2 focus. hug[/quote]

His cousin Chazz Smith said that Prince said that he doesn't do funerals. That is what I read either here or in the Housequake website. It may have been Housequake with a link to an interview with his cousin Chazz (Charles) Smith.

in other words, they dont attend non-jw faith funerals...ie, if its in a catholic church they wont attend...when my grandmother's sister died she attended the viewing and the burial but not the church services in-between...she just sat in the car and waited till the catholic services were over...it wasn't a big deal...

if prince wants to mourn his sister's death he will find his own way of doing...

rose

As someone mentioned above, it's a personal decision. I attended my Mom's and my sister's funerals...both in baptist churches. I did it to support my family.
I had been exceptionally close to my Mom and both she and my sis understood my religious beliefs and would not have judged me had I chosen not to attend, but it was my personal decision to attend.
So...how's everybody doing? smile

In an interview, Prince's cousin said Prince did not attend his mom's funeral, his dad's or his aunt's, who I think was the twin sister of his mom. I don't anticipate that he would attend Lorna's, but you never know. I guess that's between him, his conscious and God.

Funerals are morbid. Dead bodies on display. Who want's their last memory of a loved one to be this morbid picture. I can't blame him for not attending a funeral, the dead person could care less.

Memories play an important role in the grieving process - that last image...

My prayers are with Prince and his family.

I feel similarly, but I put my own preferences aside in some cases to do what I think will benefit the living most. I want to be cremated. I want no funeral; just a small memorial service if that's ok with the living.
So...how's everybody doing? smile

Snubbed?
Prince’s half sis claims he has her rightful inheritance

By C.J.

Blender, Dec 2001/Jan 2002

Prince’s half sister, Lorna Nelson, claims her estranged megastar brother is withholding a sizable inheritance that their father, John L. Nelson, intended for her.

“My father came to my house with a check,” insists Nelson of a six-figure payment she claims her father showed her four months prior to his death on August 25. “He said he wanted me to have it.”

Nelson alleges Prince’s lawyers sent her a document to sign relinquishing her right to her father’s estate to Prince. A spokesperson for Prince said he had no comment “regarding anything” on the matter.

Nelson, who describes herself as a writer, lyricist and singer, and who lives on Social Security disability payments, intends to press her claims against Prince in court.

The two half siblings have spoken only once since Nelson filed a previous lawsuit, in 1987, contending that the diminutive Prince stole the lyrics to the Sheena Easton hit “U Got the Look” from an unpublished song of hers called “What’s Cooking in This Book.” The suit was subsequently thrown out of federal court.

What? Okay. so Prince has half and step fam. i understand. She is like 15 years older than him. So, she is a step from the father side. i guess. Sorry for the 411, but i have to know the facts. i can be a factual person at times. Anyways, sympathy was never my strong suit or my cup of tea. I only went to my great grandma' from my dad side. I never went to the others cuz the all happened in within the next year. Death is something that makes me wonder. So, if I go to any of them anyways, my Uncle Gary might dissown me. Plus, funerals are not fun for anyone. No one needs the pain. So, I just think of it like this: it is like when you say good bye. Then you see the person whenever. It is the same thing w/ death. The only difference is nothing. You will see them when you do. Until then might as well live here and do what you got to do.

lightning rainbo eek & what does death make U wonder....it is an inevitable progression N the journey that leads from Spirit - 2 Spirit N the flesh & returning 2 Spirit again.....

....as a portion of my work N this world regarding several dear ones is 2 "walk them home" ~ 2 give them immediate confirmation when they transition (exit the flesh) that this one upon the earth acknowledges their presence....where do U think 'dead folk' go? they're right here among us, containing the same personality they walked around with N Life!!! recently finished reading "We are they're Heaven" by Allison DuBois where she illustrates Y those N Spirit who love us linger near, feel she explains it rather well....

Completely an individual decision on how/when/where to grieve.

But has anyone considered that one reason he may not attend is for fear of media and fans taking it as a photo op? Sadly enough, folks are crazy and have no respect at times. If he shows up, it becomes a logistical and security nightmare that only adds stress to the situation for all involved.

I was actually getting ready to post this very thing. My thought is that out of respect for his family's time of grief and for the passing loved one, Prince may not go in order to keep that time for family members as private as possible. If he were to attend, there would be fans yelling out to him about how sorry they are for him, or yelling out they love him, and at a time of a funeral, this is not something anyone would want to go through. Grief is such a personal thing, and should not turn into a fan or media frenzy.

My condolences to Prince and family of Lorna. May God Bless them all and hold their hearts sacred in their time of grief.

JW's typically don't attend funeral ceremonies. Of course that doesn't mean they don't mourn.

How someone chooses to mourn is their business, imho.

where do you people get your information???? JW's do attend funeral ceremonies. they just don't fall out and flail around. they sit quietly, mourn, sob, while they listen to an encouraging talk of how they will see they're loved ones again in the New Order.

people please don't post false comments unless you go to an actual JW and ask!

I love Prince. But over the years the list of accusations of him stealing stuff off people has grown to make even me wonder what is true in this respect. I think though, that the truth may be he takes sounds and ideas that he hears around him and works it with his own ideas and sounds to make it his own, rather than out and out stealing. And I can't help thinking that the people who he 'stole' off, just want to try and get some quick cash/compensation/acknowledgement. Is that a bad thing?

Well, in response to the above quote, I think there are two sides to every story, Prince never publicly tells his side. His sister said he stole her song, but he won in court. All of the people who said Prince stole songs, etc. from them, they've never shown where they've had any other successful songs or anything else excep the one Prince supposedly stole. Why can't they come up with something else successful then?
