I was watching the American Music Awards performance of 'Purple Rain' from '85 and was loving it to bits, but then near the end when he kicked the microphone stand and the crowd went a little bit more nuts, my eyes welled up with tears!

It was such an awesome moment, but it still surprised me that I had that reaction.

Maybe it was just my body's only response to extreme excitement - at 1am I don't suppose I could have screamed out loud, "You go Princey boy!" or similar, without expecting a knock on my door from an irate neighbour on nightshift.

If anyone understands, it'll be you lot. Or maybe I'm just incredibly strange.

But hey, has anyone else had a sudden and unexpected emotional 'swelling'??

Prince opened a soundcheck here with Elephants n Flowers, and at that moment a flurry of mixed emotions took hold. Bittersweet tears.
The music will always take me 2 a magic far away place that knows no boundaries of space and time.

Back then I had th e same emotion. Watching it now, I get the same emotuion except like you, it is also from watching "the audience" reaction. But look at Princes face during the whole thing. He is feelin it

No...you're not weird. Watching old performances of Prince has and still does cause me to shed tears. You just realized how much Prince and his performances have meant to you

I read it and looove it! From one #1 fan to another,it made me emotional too, but I can't tell you why without giving the plot away. You will not see Prince the same after you read it.

I welled up at the first Celebration when he played "America" with Bobby Z, Dr. Fink and Brown Mark. Even with W&L not being there.

I tear up all the time looking at Housequake vids. Especially when Prince really had potential.

For some reason, Raspberry Beret does it to me every time - something very Prince about it. The video for sure, when he coughs / girl is handing him his guitar / new 'do (at the time) / cloud outfit / etc.

That what prince does to you sometimes. Especailly with PR becuase it reminds you of the movie and how dramatic it was and wat he went through (somewhat) growin up.

I had the same reaction you did. Part of it is seeing just how into it Prince was, but an even bigger part for me is the audience reaction. I might get kicked for saying this, but normally clips of PR done live bore me a little Who knows, if I ever see him live that could change. But there's something special about this particular performance. It's powerful.

I remember after that performance someone at work asked me why he was mad. I told them he wasnt mad , its just his intensity.

3) LRC when he performed it accoustic on the last tour
4) Purple Rain on Arsenio when he goes back into the guitar and walks toward the crowd near the end. Also the AMA referenced in this thread

It is weird, no other artist really makes me do that accept for Bob Marley on occasion. It is not Prince himself, but it is the notes, the melody and the passion

i feel that way when i listen to power fantastic. but i have no clue y. i guess it's just beacause i love the song so much.

Prince fan to prince fan....none of us are weird. And if we are, it is a good weird. A beautiful weird, a dazzling kind of purple weird. We belong to prince.
