Prince , don't release OVERDUBBED Live Material please !

the Days of wild cd single and 1+1+1=3 npgmc version simply don't do justice to the great live stuff Prince and his band have been playing lately...The overdubs are unbelievable...awful... smile really.. If the npgmc is to release some live stuff from this great tour , please keep it as it is ... We don't need no plastic surgery...We only need Eric Leeds back in Prince's band forever !!! smile)

ps:Renato should stay there forever as well smile)

That's a good statement. I would be nice if the man believed a little bit more in his strength of making good live music. Don't kill the music by overdubs.

DAMN STRAIGHT!!! I think that's where the perfectionist thing gets in the way. If he had any idea how GOOD his stuff sounds live, he'd never tinker w/ it in the studio.

releasing live music = 1000

tinkering w/ it = -5000

Some things you just can't make better - believe in the moment. If it made us all wet ourselves while getting pushed around on battered feet, we'll eat it up even more in the comfort of our homes.
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Blah, blah, blah ...

Even though I partly agree with you all, don't you think that this topic's been discussed here for a little too long? ... I've already checked all this comments before sometime somewhere. Let's move forward and simply accept that Prince is a complete CREATOR. A perfectionist. The way you get overdubbed live recordings, is the way he wants them to be ! ... You already have bootlegs if you want something more raw (audience screaming included! ...lol...).

ZaZa

I like the adjustments Prince makes on live recordings - I prefer to think of it as sweetening not overdubbing.

I've said this before but those 'overdubs' you're referring to are actually part of the live concert-meaning he hasn't added anything after the intitial concert. He's done that with every performance of 'DOW' since 93/94.

The 'Ah ah ahh' and the 'These r the dayz of wild' parts are keyed in. They used to be 'played' by Morris Hayes, i'm not sure how he does it now.

I was at the Celebration show when he played the Montreal version(have the cd too) and also, when he performed the song live. Even the "you in the green shirt..." was part of the live performance. That's just how he plays "DOW". I like it personally. Ah ah ahh!

Are you suggesting he knew in advance who he was going to call up onstage? That makes absolutely no sense.

Listen to the "out of phase" version doing the rounds that someone put together. It isolates the backing tracks and you can definitely hear a separate vocal track doubling almost all of P's lead vox, INCLUDING the part where he's calling people onstage. Unless Renato has a keyboard patch with which he can trigger every phonetic syllable required to pound out "you in the green shirt", and a telepathic connection to Prince to know instantaneously who's being selected, THOSE ARE OVERDUBS.

Mrchristian ,
Samples triggered live (by Morris Hayes or Michael B. for example) are not overdubs...overdubs are done in studio..
Talking about samples , that sampled alto flute by Renato is great!

That's my point. The overdubs people are referring to are actually samples played during the live performance...but many people think they've been added after the concert by Prince(in the studio) and they really haven't. Thanks for the clarification.

Again, if you at the Celebration...you would've heard the parts where the backing vocals were added DURING the concert--whether by Renato OR voice activated--but not after the concert. I imagine he has a distortion/tone box attached to his microphone system that can add this---but it was there during the concert none the less.

I don't know man...I have the Celebration 2002 12 cd set and there's two versions of Days Of Wild ...None of them contain any triggered -background vocals - samples...

I Agree.
Its ok when he remix the stuff to make it sound better on cd, but i hope he does not add instruments...It does not sound live anymore when he does that.
free ur mind
