its a shame that I would like to see some rock/alternative acts added to this?

hot damn man....fuckig seriously.... disbelief

i won't go to bowie's big music festival next year expecting to see floetry and i won't go to 3121 expecting to see stereolab. that's just how that works. if i want to have both sensibilities fused, i'll go listen to my mp3 player on shuffle play. lol

yeah but prince has history with rock/alternative music...and i enjoy his music when he goes all quirk.

so because rock is missing from the pictured line up on the website there's a problem? You have jazz, hip hop, neosoul, R&B, funk and latin music from what I see, pretty diverse music so far. a rock element would be nice but if it ain't....i'm sure when Prince plays he'll bring that in shrug

who in buttfuck egypt has a problem? damn!!! i make one comment which followed a positive comment and folks get all bent out of shape over it...silly, it really is silly.

Really? You weren't thinking of Wendy and Lisa, seriously? smile

i wasnt...i was mainly thinking of folks who would challenge the ole man musically...these names featured here while nice are rather safe for prince...i dont wan't prince jamming and being inspired by these folks...i want him to kick it with thom york, bjork, amiee mann, ani difranco, beck, herbert and the guys from sweetback.

and folks...i aint bitching so get off your toilet seats...im just waxing some thoughts at 6:30 in the morning...not much thought going into any of this.

who's getting bent out of shape? I'm just responding to your opinion calling the pictured line up "a shame", so i offered my opinion that there is some diversity and perhaps Prince will offer the rock element, or maybe he will invite others not pictured.

please re-read my post.
cool idea...can't wait for folks complaining about traveling all the way from Tokyo and prince no performing...

also, the players (thus far) really lack diversity...which is a shame.

no need to split hairs, we're saying the same thing. you feel the players lack diversity which is a shame, I know you don't mean that the players are a shame. therefore I still stand by my opinion that there is some diversity in music, the only element that is missing from the pictured lineup of players is the rock element, which will either be provided by Prince or perhaps he will invite a group/singer who is not pictured, we'll just have to wait and see.

i think there is a lot of diversity within the tastes of a particular demographic, one which prince strives to appeal to.

i don't think it's only rock music that is being overlooked here. there's tons of great world music, cabaret/vocal artists, and a wealth of other styles that could fall under the definition of "diversity", though i think it's clear that prince has a direction and an audience planned, and he's basing this venture on what *he* would like to see hitting that stage. it's his own purple lollapalooza. his choices may not be my bag, but i say good for him.

It seems that he wants a certain vibe to the "club".

I just don't see the "its a shame" take on this. I think its this same ole vibe that r&b, neo-soul is somehow less than rock.

These ARE talented ppl in the line up.

If had Justin Wissylake, then let's start crying.

my lord...my one lil comment keeps getting misinterpreted...STOP IT!!!

lol

and no way in hell am i saying that neo-soul is les then rock...im just saying i like prince when he melds extremes into his music...but that this group is kinda the same vibe prince has been following for some time now...and that for me, its a shame there isn't more diversity taking part...

thats all...i love the idea prince is doing this...i think its cool...if i didn't hate vegas i soo would be there myself.

but, i am not saying the list of talent participating in this event is a shame...like anxiety's pic eluded to, im just dreaming outloud...

and there aint nothing wrong with that.

cool

well this definately explains the "I am inviting some old friends" comment, so obviously this has been in the works for sometime because he made this comment during the Te Amo Corezon single release (or was it Black Sweat) when he did the press conference?

it was the "Te Amo Corizon" conference when he said that. So the Old friends hes talking about are 'Wendy & Lisa perhaps?

ok, I thought it was the TAC. Yea, I would think W&L, among others judging by the lineup listed above.

las vegas has never appealed to me either. i may go someday, though the 3121 business isn't really psyching me up to go in the near future. i'm more excited about rockin' it with the whales and volcanos in reykjavik next year. shrug

That's all well and good and you made some excellent points...Except for the fact that this proposed club is just that: a club....People come out to Las Vegas to gamble and go to shows...And with the demographic of vactioners getting younger and younger there are some folks who will spend good money to see Gnarles Barkley or The Roots...Prince is not counting on his fans to see these other acts...he's counting on Las Vegas tourists who buy tickets to see everyone from Toni Braxton to John Mayer....Again, the club scene in Las Vegas has a life of its own, Meta....Las Vegas is its own industry with, or without Prince...as it stands, it's an interesting idea...

I don't think we are disagreeing at all, apart from the 'interesting idea' bit. Really the only 'interesting' thing with this project is instead of just some everyday act booker booking acts, it is Prince booking the different acts. The club/hotel gets the advantage of it being Prince in the sense that if he rings up an artist and invites them to play, they are very unlikely to refuse.

Precisely what Prince gets out of this I don't know; and precisely what do the Prince fans get out of this on nights it isn't Prince or a related act playing? Booking cool acts will keep the club running and interest non-Prince fan tourists, so for the large part its association with Prince seems a bit pointless to me. Certainly many people are going to go hearing about the association with Prince and maybe expecting he will be wandering around or joining the group on stage, and being disappointed when he's not there.

Many of these acts could easily get a gig in Vegas off their own back; it's just because Prince has personally asked them they're turning upto to this particular gig. So it is an insight into what music Prince likes right now but not much more.

Hey, I'm down for some real constructive criticism...For real...But I think on this one, you are thinking way too hard...There's no insight needed...The man is just putting together a roster of acts to perform at a nightclub...He want's to make some money, but at the same time he wants to do it on his own terms. It aint rocket science...Las Vegas is a lucrative business, and the midget wants in...Personally, I find the lineup interesting because a lot of the names are not "Las Vegas" acts...That's what I mean by interesting...To have J Davey and The Roots on the same roster as Patti Labelle and Chaka Khan is a curve pitch... You think J Davey could easily get a gig??? I'll let you think about that....

I'm hopeful that if this club continues for any length of time it would be a great place for big-name artists who perform a rigid "hits" set-list to come while they're coming through Vegas to play a more free-form set of the songs they'd like to try out in a smaller setting - like Prince's own legendary aftershows. Maybe the day before or the day after the artist's 'regular' Vegas date, since many artists wouldn't go for the '2 shows in a night' thing like our man.

Also, given some of the names here, I'm surprised not to see Morris Day and The Time, but I imagine they will show up at some point.
