New topic Printableoh yea....we are going to be in vegas third week of january for our anniversary, been planning it for 4 months now....but i probably shouldn't mention prince to my hubby, touchy subject for him, LOL. He thinks I am "obsessed" simply because I like his music and listen to it alot.
I have only been to three concerts and only own his music, no collectibles. don't consider that obsessed...but anyhoo, gonna have fun!

Why does everyone assume the artists currently appearing on the 3121 website will be the only artists playing for the entire length of the arrangement? Those may be the only ones they have pre-launch commitments from. Once things are up and running and word goes around, who knows what other acts may sign up to play. I think it's a little early to bitch about who won't be playing there. so, ummm...sharing my individual is bitching ehhh? did you not see my initial declaration? "cool idea" Space for sale...

Ok. But you're complaining Prince has gone corporate. These responses are some of the lamest I've ever seen. You're either gonna get personal, friends, with Prince having fun or you're gonna get corporate. Make up you're minds. Oh and if anyone didn't realize Prince is a musician and he does this to make money. It's his job. He likes his job and he likes getting paid to do his job. So.... oh never mind. You'll just find something else to complain about. Prince could start playing concerts in a stadium with no lights and no air conditioning or heat to save money and charge less for tickets and you'd complain. If he charges more money and finds ways to make more money then he's corporate LOL And about the people you see on 3121.com, this is NOT a concert with all these people. You'll see one main act a month, likely just the weekends and the rest of the nights will be no names. They would have to charge $2000 a ticket if they put on a show with all those people at once. The venue at that hotel is not a 20k seat stadium. A lot smaller so a LOT higher ticket prices per show. I'm guessing Prince headlining will be a minimum of $312.21 per ticket. It costs close to $100 a person to see a magic show that's been going on for 20+ YEARS with very little changes during that time. Someone with Prince's talent and all backup singers and FULL band for a few thousand people is gonna way out of most fan's budgets. [Edited 10/25/06 14:18pm] [Edited 10/25/06 14:19pm] Thanks for saying that. There's always someone that find something to complain about. They need to know that Larry Graham is a best and personal friend of Prince whether they like it or not and besides Larry doesn't deserve that kind of disrespect. He opened the doors for a lot of musicians/artists and have played with the best. It's like this, whatever artist you don't choose to see, you just don't go, Prince will not lose any money because of that, there's fans for every artist. The artists Prince picked are very good choices, a little something for every generation, and you can bet those shows will do good. Agreed, they're friends whether they play together or not. I just think it's nice to see Prince settling down to a steady gig for a bit.

Not to be mean or anything but,...this picture of the Twinz reminds me of the famous Dr.Suess characters in "The Cat in the Hat" story (Thing 1 & Thing 2). Hey P!... maybe you could've broken it up by naming them "Twin 31" and "Twin 21." You have jazz, hip hop, neosoul, R&B, funk and latin music from what I see, pretty diverse music so far. a rock element would be nice but if it ain't....i'm sure when Prince plays he'll bring that in [Edited 10/26/06 4:25am]

he's been dipping a toe into the neo-soul pool since around the time of NPS...plus, i've noticed most younger neo-soul artists cite him as an influence/pioneer of the genre.

murph said: metalorange said: It's funny, for ages we've had lots of people complaining they don't like the idea of Prince doing lots of dates in Vegas - now we've got complaining there isn't going to be enough Prince and too many protege acts! The expression "You can't please all the people all the time" springs to mind...
I don't really see how this is some new business model - my local nightclub I never go to books different acts almost every week, okay they're not in the same league as some of these acts, but the principle is the same. The only interest for a Prince fan is when it is an associated artist performing. I can understand Prince using his power to try to expand his fan-base's interest in other acts, but I can do that on my own thanks. Prince could book some amazing top act and I still wouldn't go if I wasn't a fan or interested in them, just because Prince says I should and he has given them his blessing? I'm a Prince fan. Primarily I want to see Prince, not these other acts. I don't think I will be alone in that. [Edited 10/25/06 15:33pm] That's all well and good and you made some excellent points...Except for the fact that this proposed club is just that: a club....People come out to Las Vegas to gamble and go to shows...And with the demographic of vactioners getting younger and younger there are some folks who will spend good money to see Gnarles Barkley or The Roots...Prince is not counting on his fans to see these other acts...he's counting on Las Vegas tourists who buy tickets to see everyone from Toni Braxton to John Mayer....Again, the club scene in Las Vegas has a life of its own, Meta....Las Vegas is its own industry with, or without Prince...as it stands, it's an interesting idea... I don't think we are disagreeing at all, apart from the 'interesting idea' bit. Really the only 'interesting' thing with this project is instead of just some everyday act booker booking acts, it is Prince booking the different acts. The club/hotel gets the advantage of it being Prince in the sense that if he rings up an artist and invites them to play, they are very unlikely to refuse. Precisely what Prince gets out of this I don't know; and precisely what do the Prince fans get out of this on nights it isn't Prince or a related act playing? Booking cool acts will keep the club running and interest non-Prince fan tourists, so for the large part its association with Prince seems a bit pointless to me. Certainly many people are going to go hearing about the association with Prince and maybe expecting he will be wandering around or joining the group on stage, and being disappointed when he's not there. Many of these acts could easily get a gig in Vegas off their own back; it's just because Prince has personally asked them they're turning upto to this particular gig. So it is an insight into what music Prince likes right now but not much more.
