Damm ya really passionate about this... Something to keep in mind. Prince and I are the same age so I can relate....
P is approach the big 5-0. Which means he can't move and groove like he use to. Doing a worldwide tour at this age is HARD!!!! That kind of travel and schedule can tear your body down like you would not believe. Trust me I know.... So from this standpoint, a move like this isn't bad. He still makes money, has a dedicated venue to perform at AND can still tour but at a much smaller pace. On other thing. Don't look at going to LV strictly for a P concert. There are SO many other things to do. Most people (outside of the 17M who attended conventions in LV last year) go there for a weekend getaway. There might be specific show they are going to. But most book tickets for multiple shows. Yeah its pricy but LV is more of a vacation gateway... This is the way LV is promoting itself...

silverandgold said: So what is this about a “lack of diversity” that some are asking on some of these sites?. Bottom line, like I said, the real question they want to ask Prince is “Where are the White Artists Prince?”
See this is the same thing that happened when he introduced Tamar, the same type of atmosphere and negative comments from some of you. It’s almost as if unless Prince is surrounded by more “White” artists or someone that makes you “feel safe”( and you know exactly what I mean by that comment) regardless of what type of music that White artist is into, then it would be ok and you’d praise Prince. So why is it when Prince surrounds or chooses artists of his own race and present them to some of you, the criticism of Prince runs rampant at some of these sites? This is when the “true colors" of Prince’s fans comes out, and it’s a shame. I certainly hope you give Prince a chance and wait to see what other artists he plans on bringing to the Rio, because it is sad that it seems Prince is accepted more by his white fans if he plays more rock and associates himself with more White Artists. Yes, we’ve heard remarks from some fans, that in the past Prince’s Black fans abandoned him during the Purple Rain days, that was never true. Black fans of Prince have been there in full force from the beginning and we will always be there, we have never left him, and we will be there until the end. . I will say this, if there is an artist out there that I like, regardless of their race, you better believe I will support and buy their music, because “music is just that, music” it can't be defined as a “color or race” and no form of music is limited to one particular race, and I really hope some of you take the time to learn that.. Have a wonderful and positive day and I’ll see you in Vegas!

murph said: metalorange said: I don't think we are disagreeing at all, apart from the 'interesting idea' bit. Really the only 'interesting' thing with this project is instead of just some everyday act booker booking acts, it is Prince booking the different acts. The club/hotel gets the advantage of it being Prince in the sense that if he rings up an artist and invites them to play, they are very unlikely to refuse. Precisely what Prince gets out of this I don't know; and precisely what do the Prince fans get out of this on nights it isn't Prince or a related act playing? Booking cool acts will keep the club running and interest non-Prince fan tourists, so for the large part its association with Prince seems a bit pointless to me. Certainly many people are going to go hearing about the association with Prince and maybe expecting he will be wandering around or joining the group on stage, and being disappointed when he's not there. Many of these acts could easily get a gig in Vegas off their own back; it's just because Prince has personally asked them they're turning upto to this particular gig. So it is an insight into what music Prince likes right now but not much more. Hey, I'm down for some real constructive criticism...For real...But I think on this one, you are thinking way too hard...There's no insight needed...The man is just putting together a roster of acts to perform at a nightclub...He want's to make some money, but at the same time he wants to do it on his own terms. It aint rocket science...Las Vegas is a lucrative business, and the midget wants in...Personally, I find the lineup interesting because a lot of the names are not "Las Vegas" acts...That's what I mean by interesting...To have J Davey and The Roots on the same roster as Patti Labelle and Chaka Khan is a curve pitch... You think J Davey could easily get a gig??? I'll let you think about that.... Yeah, Prince is putting together a roster of acts, so this enterprise is interesting only on a 'Prince-as-a-businessman' level rather than on a music level, other than the times he himself performs. Kudos to him for this new enterprise, but selfishly I'd rather have him focus on delivering his own music to us than being distracted by helping these new acts along! It may be interesting to have such acts in a line-up, but there won't be any cross-fertilisation as far as I gather, they will just perform different weeks not at the same time. I never said every artist could've got a gig on their own, just some of them. Being in the UK I don't even know who J Davey is, most of those acts are not known internationally (yet). As I said, kudos to Prince for giving them a big-up, I'm sure they're all very good, but simply because they have Prince's thumbs-up won't mean I will be travelling to Vegas to check them out. And I don't see how these acts are going to have any cross-fertilisation with Prince and Prince's music either unless he joins them on stage or works with them in the studio. Just pointing out that from a 'Prince fan' perspective interested mostly in the music this new enterprise doesn't change anything or bring anything particularly new or useful as far as I can see, other than the Prince gigs themselves. There is an affordable way to do Vegas. Like I side think of it as a short vacation getaway. The most expensive thing is the airfare. No getting around this unless you fly standby. Some airlines depending on where you’re flying from will offer major discounts if the plane is not full. Also check out some of the discount players out there (Southwest, JetBlue, etc.). Another trick is to fly off hours. Take a red-eye. You will get there early in the morning and might have to wait for your hotel room. While you are waiting take a ride over to the MGM Grand or Paris hotels. They got a BANGIN breakfast brunch for $11.95 a person.
As far as the hotel is concerned you don’t have to stay at the Rio or some of the other 4-star or 5-star hotel. Stay at some of the smaller hotels that are a lot cheaper. Caution, you don’t want to stray too far from the strip. Vegas is kewl but remember it’s still a big city with big city problems. Check out Circus Circus, the Tropicana, the Sands….. Use the Internet to your advantage. They offer major discounts on all shows, tours and other attractions. Check out the following websites… http://www.lasvegas-nv.co...oupons.htm http://www.lasvegas-nv.co...oupons.htm http://lasvegas.hotelscorp.com/ http://wedoitallvegas.com...oupons.asp

VEGAS!!! I am multiracial. So, I really don't care about colors anyways. I first favorite singer was Britney Spears in 5th grade when she 1st came out. Prince is my second person that is my favorite. Prince my number one favorite. Britney Spears, on the other hand, is not my favorite anymore. Most cuz her music and direction in life is different than my type of taste. Prince is all the way round cool w/ a K. I still respect who they are around. Isn't like I can change it anyways. Plus, it really doesn't matter who they are w/ as long as they are having a good time. Any who, Prince in LV. YAY! I only got to see him perform once. But, from reading some of ur responces; it looks as if I probably will never actually see Prince live in performance.

I just wanna know one thing... WHO THE F*CK is J DAVEY? . [Edited 10/26/06 17:07pm] Here's their bio from their paged. Currently they are signed to Warners from what I've heard. "What do you get when you mix a bold, modelesque, mohawked chick with a boys name and an electro-funk-soul, uber-hip robotica boy with a name fit for a girl? What happens when you blend 1-part Electronica, 2-parts Soul, and a sprinkle of Funk and Hip-Hop? What do you think evolves when you take a little bit of yesterday, a little more of today, and a whole bunch of tomorrow and throw it in a boiling pot of magic musical fusion? Well, by definition, you have whipped up a hot, undeniable batch of J*DaVeY, a duo with a sound that screams of past, present, and future influences. Their progressive Soul melodies are infused with New Wave electronic impulses that mesh so beautifully it is almost impossible to put a label on it. Thus, the connection between the mysteriously androgynous name and the new sound becomes simple and plain: J*DaVeY is new food for the malnourished musical soul. Thank goodness...music finally tastes good again! Born with music in their veins, both Jack Davey and Brook D'Leau were products of the growing music video age that finally allowed consumers to visualize what they were listening to. By way of St. Louis, MO, Jack Davey was exposed to Classic Jazz and hints of late seventies Jazz Fusion before being introduced to eighties R&B and the new sound of Hip-Hop music. By the time she relocated to Los Angeles at the tender age of 8, her musical tastes and dreams of performing landed her in an all-girl singing group that signed to MCA Records in the early-90s. Although this group never released any material, the studio and songwriting experience prepared Jack for what was to come. Los Angeles born partner Brook D'Leau was surrounded by the New Wave & Pop-Rock sound by way of Prince, Talking Heads, and The Police. The youngster began to bang out interestingly melodic instrumental tracks in his father's home studio after school and on weekends simply for fun, but never thought of taking a career in music seriously. Through their youth it was evident that music would change their futures, and once introduced by a mutual friend in high school the two young musical masterminds decided to put plans for a partnership into motion." They have a cool track named "Mr. Mister". DJ Rashida played in it Vegas after th soundcheck. They are known on the East Coast. Their style is similar to a group named "KUDU". http://jdaveybaby.com/index2.html - go here and click on to this other site and click onto "media" it will bring up their video "Mr. Mister" you can look at it in quicktime. www.jdaveybaby.com (apparently this one is a new site currently under construction) http://www.myspace.com/jdavey You can definitely hear the Prince influence in this group.
