Prince mentioned on CNN's Crossfire (1986)

In 1986, Frank Zappa appeared on CNN's Crossfire to discuss rock lyrics and censorship. The opposing guest was some dickweed named John Lofton and the debate between him and Zappa got very heated. Over the course of the debate Prince is mentioned a few times, and Zappa even claims that the whole debate is really about Prince's lyrics (although Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" video is singled out for discussion).

The show is about 20 minutes. Here is a link:

Yeah, I've seen this clip before, it's hilarious!

Although I think FZ loses it a bit when he gets upset and personal, and tells the guy to "kiss my ass" etc... Zappa was a very intelligent and educated man, he really didn't have to do that. Now, for a minute, he made himself look like the uncivilized rocker they wanted him to be...

He was just giving back what he was getting. Zappa has a reputation of being the last person in the business to shovel anybody else's shit. Lofton got off easy.

I'm just glad to see Zappa come to the defense of Prince. The only other time I heard him mention Prince he sounded extremely disappointed that P didn't join himself, Dee Snider and John Denver at the PMRC hearings...especially when "Darling Nikki" was the song that "started it all."

I have to admit that after hearing how articulate Prince is in some of the interviews I've heard I'm somewhat baffled myself as to why he didn't attend those hearings and put Tipper Gore and Company in their place.
