Doesnt something seem 'off'???

I mean.. I know that Prince has been unpredictable over the years...
but the npgmc closed(out of the blue), a divorce(unfortunately) and now Vegas(maybe)?

This doesnt seem a little 'off' or out of place to anyone else? Or is it just unpredictable Prince?

The only thing that I think it is 'off' is how he promoted 3121.

But other than that Prince is just being Prince.

Ok... the symbol thing you wrote is funny... I thought it was a kool thing when he did it tho.

... I didnt think about Prince staying around forever... but then again... he does have enough music to stay around for a very long time... I would hope that he could/would stay around for longer tho...

...3121... thats another story... I think that the album probably has a completely better feel when he plays live(as most of his music)...by no means do I not respect or appreciate the album... and in no way am I saying for him to revert to something older that he did... But I do think that Prince could of done something more with it (is that wrong to say???)... I just oneder if someone or people 'Yes'ed him on this one... I would guess that it ultimately comes down to him tho.

Other than that, I dont think he's a sell out... Maybe he is just taking some time out for Prince... I just thought that everything was a little out of the flow thats been going on, even for Prince.

I wish him the Best tho... God Bless him.

Yeah, it's just Prince.

It seemed off when he started wearing underwear on stage.
It seemed off when he said strange things in interviews about his race, etc.
It seemed off when he released a polarizing psychadelic pop album after Purple Rain was the most successful sound he'd ever used.
It seemed off when he talked about giving his music away for free.
It seemed off when he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol.
It seemed off when he got married.
It seemed off when he became a Jehovah's Witness.
It seemed off when he released TRC.
It seemed off when he released a purely instrumental album.
It seemed off when he performed with Beyonce and then suddenly toured large arenas again.
It seemed off when he released a slow ballad as the lead single of his new pop album.
It seemed off when he disappeared following the album's release.
It seemed off when NPGMC was taken down.
It seemed off when news came in that he's suddenly getting divorced.
It seems off now that there's talk of him signing with Vegas.

Basically, when the fuck has anything Prince ever done not seemed off?

Good question! I'm still waiting for some sort of confirmation...

Why don't you just shut the fuck up. Getting a divorce, closing down a website and working in Vegas for a year makes him a sellout.

Prince is far from conventional (isn't that part of why we love him so much?), but I agree that something seems off. Not so much the divorce (it'd be stranger for one of his relationships to actually work), but with the NPG cutoff and the Vegas thing.

Sure, he treats us like sh*t most of the time, but I've always gotten the feeling that on some level, he's interested in our perceptions and our feedback, even though he doesn't want to be. It's that love-hate -- he wants to connect with us, but at the same time, he doesn't give a crap and he'll do whatever he wants to do, thank you very much. But by shutting down the NPG, he's shutting off his official way to connect and communicate with us (even those of us who weren't members). He basically moved and didn't bother to give us his new phone number. Maybe because he doesn't want the talk of his personal life or for some things to be leaked out about it, or he's just tired of all the ridiculous things some of his fans ask and say. But still -- you'd think he'd want the blind adoring butt kissers around, just so he can check in for an ego boost once in a while.

Add this to the Vegas thing (and some of these other appearances) -- regular, scheduled non-tour performances from a fairly reclusive man who previously has liked to delight by popping up and performing unexpectedly ... it seems a lot more like a money grab than about art and expression.

To me, it feels like: I don't want much of anything to do with you, but I do want your money so I can recoup what I lost from WB and from these wives and so that I do not have to have anything to do with any of you ever again or be worried about promoting any other record again. I'll have more than enough money to do whatever I want.

Kinda hurts my little feelings.

Prince:
my fans xpect the unxpected so they give me a large room 2 b creative n, they never no what eye'm gonna come with next, or y.

heard on Kiss, Ranel in the Morning.
Bay Area.

Prince functions a little bit bhind the beat.
but when u LEAST xpect it, he'll b right on it.
he can b n vegas from now until he dines at their meat buffets.

he's off but his purple vibe still connects regardless.
he will either look 4 us n vegas, or take 2 the road, shortly.

his whole thing is about CONNECTING.
PRINCE HAS 2 PLUG N2 SOMEBODY...often.
that's the purpose we serve.

Prince is not going 2 share his limelight with a bunch of 'slot machines', and eye don't necessarily mean the machines.

Maybe he's just lying low because of the divorce. A divorce can probably make you upset with the whole world. But, I was thinking the same thing as the last person that posted. I don't want anything to do with you, but I'll take your money. Are we being Shuned because of the religion? I hope that's not the case.

But, If he doesn't want anything to do with us, he has to know that he's going to be looking out at the same fans in Vegas that he was looking at in PP.

I hear what your saying... but I never thought that he treats us like sh*t... I wish I could say something to make you feel better... I cannot, and I wouldnt think Prince could either...You would have to do that for You... The purpose/focus is The Music (Wouldnt you agree??)...He gives us great music to listen to for the most part... everything else is a bonus. (hope that helps) smile

I am sort of with you on the 'butt kisser' thing tho.. for the most part, it is a bit upsetting... why would you want someone to just 'kiss your butt' and 'yes' you all the time?? It wouldnt serve much purpose if everyone just said something was good just because.. I would think that it would be better to get some real feedback on things, from those that care about your music (or even those that havent heard your music before)... So I guess that wouldnt help his ego (Im not really sure if that is what he is concerned with... a lot of people seem to think so)... So in a way, the 'butt kisser' thing might 'put him off' and it might be something that he doesnt like... If it isnt real feedback that he's getting? What purpose would that serve?

Then again, you have some people that are looking for him to do something that he used to... so they might be biased based on that...

Some of us are just looking to hear music and get that feeling you get when you hear something that gives you that feeling ... I wish I could explain it better.. I hope that you know what I mean... its like when you hear a song and it just gives you a feeling ... that feeling smile ... I get it when I listen to Al Green's "What Is This Feeling?" or "La-La For You" (for example).. Does anyone out there know what I mean??? ... Now Im not 'looking' to hear something that sounds like that (if it does, then so be it)... I just want to listen to my new Prince album and experience that feeling again.

The more I think about it, the more it seems that Prince just needs some time for Prince... A divorce is unfortunate, period.. And I dont think Vegas is a bad thing (dont think I could afford that tho)... But It just feels like the 'flow' changed... So maybe 'off' is the wrong choice of word... There has been so much interaction on the web for him the last decade(about)... and it just seemed out of the flow to shut down the site... then again, it hasnt even been a year...

Guess I'll just wait... cause I do remember the feeling that I used to get when I heard the whisper about the new Prince album.

LauraRichardson....

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. There's no reason to be uncivil about it.
By the way, if he's in Vegas, I'll be there for a show or two.

Moreover, if you disagree with someone (this is for EVERY orger), state your case and be clear about why you disagree.

How's this as an example of why:

Your doctor, after examining your labwork, tells you....What the Fuck?? You have a fucking infection and you need to take a fucking antibiotic..here's the fucking prescription.

OR....Your attorney, who's speaking to the jury states...my fucking client is fucking NOT fucking guilty. Fucking come to that conclusion.

Ya know what I'm saying???

Telling someone to "shut the F up" doesn't quite cut it, when it comes to credibility.

I've had strong disageements in the P&R forum and never once did the individuals deteriorate to the "shut the fuck up" level. If nothing else this web site needs to teach manners and treating each other in a reasonable way.

Although, this is a "Prince" website, not Miss Mannners. There still needs to be civil discourse.
