Prince Live - Ever Thought "Why am I Cheering??"

When you've been at a Prince gig, have you ever cheered at something he's said, only to think to yourself "why the hell am I cheering at that for?!"?

There were a few times for me, but these stick out in my mind:

"I'm talkin' about theocratic order, are you with me tonight?"
"My name is not Prince, my name is not Victor, but with you I am victorious"
"Ladies and gentleman, Tony M"

Hell naw! Prince was in front of me, LIVE! That's reason enough to cheer!

Shit, he could have stood there reciting the alphabet and I'd have still been excited

I agree, when you're at a live show, you're in the zone, and cheer about anything. Even when I'm leaving the concert, driving home, in bed and in my dreams I'm still cheering.

No but when he kept saying 'on your feet' I started wondering why I kept standng up everytime he said it. I wasn't near the stage and then he kept saying 'Jump up and down and I started jumping and really felt like a fool!

No, but I got really tired of the people who kept cheering & answering him during the screening of the 1st night of the "Musicology" tour. What the hell?! It was a damn movie theatre!! He couldn't see or hear them! It was so incredibly annoying! confused

I saw it in South Brunswick, NJ.
I had class at Rutgers, took a nap in my car, then went to the theatre and got in line. THEN I had the nerve to go to work the next day. My coworkers couldn't understand what was so cool about a concert on screen! They just don't get it! cool

Oh! (4got this part)
U only had 50 people? The theatre was so packed they had to open up 2 screens!

lol. A friend of mine I took to one of the Lovesexy gigs, 4 rows from the stage, jumped up and shouted as loud as he could during The Cross, anticipating the guitar kicking in, only to realise there was still another verse to go!

no, but every single time i've been at a show or seen 'im perform on television there's always people who cheer over 'im simply because he's talking. it's just kinna busted--no matter what prince would say, most likely the uber-fams in the audience would cheer anyway.

prince: i've got the clap! neutral
lunatic fammies: OMGWOOOOOYAYYYYY!!!! clapping yay! excited

LOL! As long as he wasn't trying to give it to me. You're damn right, I'd have still been excited but I'd have been like 'ewwww' and made a mental note, to never sit down behind his nasty ass, first!

First time in '89. Prince; "Do you believe?"

Everyone in the crowd, except myself; "Yeah!"

I would even cross my arms. That pissed him off a few years later, during a performance of The Christ. I ain't going to raise my hand just cuz everyone else is. Hell no.

I mean, I love his voice, most of his music and live he is unbeaten. Especially back in the day when he would still do dance routines, splits and jumps. But I won't blindly follow where he is leading, especially as he seems to chance his mind every few years or so.

I love the fact that he feels religious, but I do not feel called to go along with that just because he is my favest singer in the world. It is the same with Mahalia Jackson. Love her voice and message, but it does not make me a believer.

I have a recording of an ONA performance where he indeed says 'I'm talkin' about theocratic order, are you with me tonight?' and someone in the audience goes HELL NO!

I can't help heckling Prince. It is SO much fun to get him angry.

That one performance of The Christ he was singing with his eyes closed cuz I was wearing my Romeo + Juliet t-shirt, totally by accident, but he could not stand me pointing at the cross on that shirt everytime he sang the words The Christ.

I haven't yet had the pleasure of seeing Prince live. But I usually cheer or at least scream when I see him on TV. When he bounced out on American Idol as a surprise I think people heard me two blocks away shouting "IT'S PRINCE!"

And he'd hear me loud and clear at a live show!

Haha I do that too! A few years ago at the Oscars, I had no idea he was presenting award and, oh man, when he walked on screen...

I was surprised none of the neighbors called the cops. biggrin
