He doesn't do autographs; i have never seena asingle pic of him with a fan.

What's privacy got to do with it?

Even when he did signings he never said 'hi' or shaked anyone's hand.

He's ignored many artists straight to their face who tried to communicate with him.

Prince shook my hand and my friend and 6 other girls outside a club in Columbus OH in June 2001.....he also gave me a hug for my birthday when I asked him.....he was very nice and polite to all of us.....and the one thing I remember so well....is how good he smelled....mmmmm...

Yes he has done autographs in the past but I don't know about the pictures.

He gave pound to my boyfriend and a grin to me at club Esso in Atlanta in 1997 as he walked by I touched his shoulder closest I ever got to him. he smelled great and his skin looked like cream and Mayte was stunning close up. He shook his head and stuck his tongue when people asked for an autograph.

everybody has kinda heard my story but...
it was the first celly...there were NO chairs to be had and the poor lil feet took a dang beating..anyway..I just couldn't stand for another second so I squeaked by a lil thingy preventing anyone from going up the stairs and had a seat on the stairs that ran along side the sound booth area. After a few I realized that someone was back there so I turned around to see Prince standing right behind me...I turned back around as if it were no big deal and about had a heart attack on the inside. I figured this was my one and only chance to have some sort of encounter with the man so I turned back around and stuck my hand out...palm up (don't really know why) he looked at my hand...looked at me with a silly look as if to say..what am I supposed to do with that, I said nothing..just kept my hand out....He slapped me five and turned his hand over for me to do the same...so I did with a smirk and turned back around.
ahh..it was great.
I was also in one of the rainbow children listening session discussions with him and larry for about 3 hours where he candidly spoke with all of us and was very gracious the whole time
I mean...he may not be conventional with his fans (signing autographs, taking pics) but he did throw the celebrations at paisley park for 3 years in a row, opening paisley park up for tours and playing music and shit..he even took us to the movies one night.
the man is good to his fans....whether you want to believe it or not.

i got a handshake at a 7/94 glam slam show in mpls when i was 18. i was front row center, he was doing a guitar solo right in front of me. put up my hand he stopped playing for a sec and shook mine. i also stole the set list from his mic stand when the show was over. def. got my 50 bucks worth.

But anyway, there's plenty of celebs who don't do autographs. In recent times it is because it has turned into an industry and a way to make money via Ebay rather than a personal thing for a fan. But also if it is known you do autographs, it just encourages fans to hang around everywhere waiting for you, to interrupt you in a restaurant or whatever when it's personal time, just plain to think they can approach you at opportunity. Which is fine if it's one or 2 but when there are crowds rushing you and pawing at you, it gets a bit much I imagine, especially when there are so many crazies out there these days, it's a security risk. Didn't the guy who shot John Lennon get his autograph first?

But hey, turn it around into yet another attack on Prince's character if you that's your thang...

Metalorange you pretty much nailed it in your post. In addition to selling signatures and security risks, as far as taking pictures with fans, I remember in an interview Jennifer Lopez talked about stopping to take a picture with this family, just to turn around and find that they sold the picture to the enquirer with some bullshit story about their encounter with her.
