If you had to name one Prince song that changed your life

what would it be and why? What I mean, is there one song that inspired you to do something for someone else? Is there one song that inspired you to make a change in something you do or something you wanted to change about yourself?

I am very open minded and crazy at times. cool One song that changed me would be Blessed, Loved, and Beautiful. Hearing Prince's voice more so than Tamar's voice made me feel like I am those things. That I am not ugly, but a flower waiting to bloom. I personal thought I was nothing few years back. Family: dont ask. At first I would keep the song until one day when I push random on my radio, I hear Prince singing away at the song. I felt loved from like God or someone reaching down for me and lifting me up. I know not that many people are moved that way by Prince, but I could be wrong. Prince to me is a man who open up gates that test u. It is ur choice what u do.

With a response like that todd, I KNOW you are Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed. Thank you for sharing that. That song really is inspiring and reminds us to look not at what we have, but at who we are underneath it all. Thanks again. biggrin

No.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

"1999" would head the list of many that I could choose.

Simply put, "1999" turned me onto music. Although I was always keen for music, "1999" is what sent me over the edge. It opened my ears to an entire world of artistic expression, and for that I owe it a lot. 1999 was my first album. I was 10 years old back in 1990 when I decided to save up my allowance for several weeks to be able to purchase it. My mother at the time hated Prince and would have forbidden its presence in her house. I snuck my savings to my older brother, who clandestinely bought me the tape. 1200+ CDs, 300+ tapes and 200+ records later, I owe it to "1999".
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I think "1999" was pretty much it for me too! I was 13 yrs old the first time I heard this song and for the first time I was really and truly motivated by music. Sure I liked music before but this song and album really had me hook, line, and sinker!

Moonbeam pretty much said what I was going to say -- except for me it was 1983 and I was 12 years old when 1999 showed me an entirely different world perspective. That's when I started writing my own music, and by the time I graduated high school I was writing at least one song a day. I'm not quite so fanatical now, but 1999 gave me my love for music and trying something new. So yeah, in that way it changed my life. If I were to pick a specific song off the album, I'd go with "Automatic" just because of the many different things going on in it and the way he produced it -- awesome song.

we are the New power generation.. he was like, "we're sick and tired of your old fashion music... ideas" for me, that made me challenge my own personal beliefs and change my mind the way I saw fit and not because of any personal weakness or what other people were spoon feeding me.

Hello,

Well I cannot nail down one song that changed my life unless I can count the
"LoveSexy" album as one song since it was one continuous play.

It would have to be the "LoveSexy" album as a whole. When it came out I suffering from a bad depression period of about a year or so and the album
aided in my recovery. It was very positve, fun, perky. If I was having
a bad day it helped me get through a bad moment or two.

Without a doubt, that song would have to be "Dolphin". It helped an insecure 13 year old girl realize that she didn't need to impress toxic friends who didn't care about her. To this day, I know that it's not worth bending over backwards for people who just try to put me down. cool

Wow, a lot of people chose 1999. Very cool.

For me the song that changed my life would have to be: SOTT. Whenever I hear that song, it reminds me how much there is in the world that is truly an injustice and so much more to be done. It inspires me to want to get involved, to right the wrongs in the world, to help people wherever I can. It's the one song that reminds me that social work is the right career for me and it makes me want to get up and fight the injustices.

The other song that inspired me to change personally was Still Would Stand All Time. I use to feel so alone and that song reminded me that I have never be alone. It caused me to want to search deeper, to discover myself, to find out who I am and what the truth is. Also the line "U better run to the light, leave your past behind, All things will be fine, Still would stand all time" made me realize that it doesn't matter where I came from, or even where I'm headed, what matters is what I do right now and that it will always be ok. For a long time, I defined myself by my past, it was who I was, but after I heard this song and began to do some soul searching as it were, I was able to let it go and live in the Now. There was just something about that song that really pushed me to self-discovery.

lovesessy don't count, it still coulda been tracked even back in '88. tease mr.green

plus for me, dm didn't really make me change anything. it more or less let me know that what i knew already and what some people told me was wrong was indeed correct: it's okay to be who i am.

Name just one? Impossible! At different times of my life there have been many of Prince's songs which have had a positive impact on my life, often just on my mood and my way of looking at things, but also on my aspirations and self esteem. The ones which stand out, in no particular order are:

Empty Room
Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do
When You Were Mine
The Ladder
Anna Stesia
And God Created Woman

Yeah, it's more of an album thing for me too with 1999, but it was the title track that made me get it.

Oh yeah, and Dirty Mind kicks totally ass!
