OK, so that pic posted of aunt jemima is a terrible one and one I've never seen before. The aunt jemima I recall always appeared to be a lovely woman. ...

This is Nancy Green, as Aunt Jemima.

This is the updated version:

The other image is this guy's rendition.

If anyone is offended by that image (especially over any of the above images), it says so much more about them, than anything else.

the original image of Aunt Jemima is a reminder of the image of the "mammy".

Its all about imagery.

Right. But it's this one that some seem to be more offended by. I don't get that.

Uh,...the reason your thread has gotten the "Oh hell no" type of response is largely due to the "Aunt Jemima" mention, which has a slight overtone of racism. Not saying the racism is coming from u perse, being that u could be black for all I know. The connatation is a drag. If u had just said that u dug P in his do-rags, then it would have been an entirely different galaxy. Also, I heavily doubt that P is trying to evoke Aunt Jemima. The history of the do-rag is long and deep. Brothers (black men) were sportin' do -rags on the street since the 40's. THIS, more than likely, is what P is paying homage to. Morris actually wears one in the opening sequence in Purple Rain. It's been around forever. Out here in L.A., gangstas used to wear do-rags all the time. Tupac evoked this West Coast tradition for a period. I myself, usually will wear one when I go to bed to keep my hair from being totally fucked up when I raise in the morning. But I also have worn it on the street, usually under a hat. It looks cool if your hair is long and u know what the hell you're doing. P, of course can pull it off, mainly cuz P is seriously old school. Always have been. P is street and P is an o.g. He's always brought that sensibility to his fashion sense and his persona. U just have to know where he gets his shit from, that's all.

well, I think they don't get that the pic is of her being angry, with the fist coming up out of the box as to say she's tired of this bs. I get it.

Not only do some not get it but the lighter, happy Mammy Jemima is referred to as "a nice lady" & "Mad Jemima" in her empowerment do-rag and fist is called "hurtful".

Go figure.

welp..in between all the condescending "they don't get it" stuff...you've taught me that...NOPE...I didn't get it. I assumed (you know what that does) the meaner looking Aunt Jemima was put up to show a negative betrayal of her...but now that you've said what you said, I see that's the pissed off Aunt Jemima and rightfully so pissed off. Although I didn't refer to the image of the pissed off aunt Jemima as "hurtful" nor did I say that image I was familiar with was a "nice lady" I said she seemed like a lovely women. And No, I was not associating that image of aunt Jemima as a slave women or "mammy"...more of perhaps a housewife in the 1950's or something.
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

The image of aunt jemima is the same exact imagery of the "mammy". This is why there was an issue and a need for a change. Think about this, how many images of white women in the 50s are of women with a scarf and looking like a cleaning lady, cook or maid. Most had on pearls, hair all done up, etc.

This is really about knowing your American history and how images were used. I'm offended per se but this was just a dumb thread and was even dumber with using "aunt jemima" as a reference.

Just like black ppl don't like watermelon more than any other group BUT were used in advertising in that manner.
