I'm surprised no one has freaked out about Prince putting a song in a Warner Bros. movie yet. All sporting a huge, leaky boner and posting lists of what are definately gonna be on the reissues.

how did Prince go from singing "Dirty Mind" to writing songs for tap dancing penguins? lol

Well, lets see...

Dirty Mind: 1980
Happy Feet: 2006

I would much rather not see a man near 50 prancing about in bikini briefs and thigh highs! lol

-----
Co-Sign P is getting older. He is not going to be running around in his underwear anymore. I really think he is living in L.A. and hanging around all the celbs to get into the movies.

Could be a good move for him as these kiddie movies are the only pictures selling tickets these days.

This thread is proof that some will find fault with anything Prince does. First, animation is not just for kids. Second, not only is this film a quality project but it will surely be a classic. This is a great gig for, not just Prince, but anyone...if they can get it.

I hope he takes it to the next level and is cast in an upcoming film/animation of theirs.

confuse

im gonna admit i havent really been jazzed about prince of late but i said it was a cool thing for him to be doing...

and while i am jonzing to see the film myself (before prince's involvement) calling it a potential classic seems a bit of a stretch...IMHO.

As far as animation goes, it's not that much of a stretch at all. It will be a classic. That's my guess based on this alone. We'll know soon enough.

That was my first thought, tooo. What's next, Prince toys in the happy meals at Micky D's? confused

This doesn't reek of Elton John because it's only one song. If it was the whole soundtrack, I'd agree with you, but everyone contributes a song or two to soundtracks at some point. At least it's a high-quality project, not like Showgirls.

This line makes me think of Family Name:

"This is without a doubt one of the most important films we have ever released," said Pearlman.

Thinking now that he was singing about someone specifically at WB hmmm

new P-song? Cool! It will probably be better than everything else he's done over the last years! He realizes that 'one-offs' have to make a good impact! He didn't release 'Good Love' for 'Bright Lights, Big City' for nothing!

Come on now.

People seem to be upset that he's doing stuff for kids. If you remember, back in 1996 (before the tragic death of his son), Prince had plans to put out a children's book, and an album of songs for kids. He went ahead with the Muppet Show appearance. Why is it so unbelievable that a man his age would do something for children? Many of his fans have children, and he seems to have a real heart for kids.
[/b]

The Muppet Show was more for adults, imo...

It's not even so much that it's for a children's film, or even that it's an animated film (which I detest), it's the fact that between this, performing in Vegas, AI & the Superbowl, he's teetering awfully close to becoming some sort of mainstream parody of himself. (Popular does not equal good.) Elton John used to be funky and rock the crazy outfits, etc. now you only hear his songs on easy listening or classic rock stations. I just don't want Prince to end up marginalized like that--he has enough problems getting air play as it is...

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I don't think Elton's doing so bad. I just bought a ticket to his concert for $125. He's reached a very wide audience, and pretty everyone knows who he is. I would love for Prince to be a household name, and not for doing something infamous.

Haven't heard the Happy Feet track but if it's good, it will probably get the air play that you seem to be concerned about, so you should be happy.

For something to be a "household name" usually mean it's boring, lifeless, and bland -just the way the soccer moms of the world like it.

Nothing wrong with doing a song or two for an animated movie, but I think what jone70 said is closer to what's going on than anything else. Is Prince becoming a mainstream parody of himself? neutral

AI especially was a low point. I'm well aware that our hero is the Queen of Hypocrisy, but that show is the most vile by-product of everything he'd been bitching about all these years.

I like Elton too, I just don't like any music he's put out in a long time. Who says getting older has to equal bland? Elton's music used to be like a full course meal, now it's plain toast.

I wouldn't say Prince has arrived at that point yet, but sometimes he's edging more towards easy-digestive territory than he used to.

He mentioned that Savion Glover had done all of the tap dance sequences by motion capture, and that he was currently in a studio filming more for the end credits, which included a new song by Prince ("Heart Song").
It's Savion Glover who is responsible for the terrific tap dance in Joint2Joint?
