The Band? The band? The Band?

I dunno how many got the latest NPGMC email but in it there is a line "Plus One Mo' Jam from Prince & The Band - The New Days Of Wild
Single! Available NOW!"

I was just wondering, are they refering casually to the band, ie the NPG or is there a new incarnation coming as it is capitalised "The Band"...

A bit mundane if it is mind you... Prince and The Band?... naaa, sounds crap...

I must admit though, NPG is starting to sound a bit tired. It is too closely linked to the less productive period... A new incarnation of "The Band" would certainly bring a new freshness about it all.

How about Prince and TBFKANPG?...

Yeah, I know... Dumb!

Doubtful, since that name was taken long before Prince even made his first record. Robbie Robertson ain't havin' it.

Prince's band is still called 'The NPG'.
The single still says so on the cover.
It says...

"One mo' jam from Prince & the band"
DAYS OF WILD - PRINCE & The NPG
Live in Montreal

Oh. My. God. The phrase "One More Jam...from Prince & The Band" is chanted during this live rendition of DOW. As a matter of fact it appeared in a lot of the live jamming during the last few months of the tour. This has been widely reported. How do you get 'there might be a change in the band's name soon' from that?

I just did a super quick Google search of Calhoun Square and came up with over twenty hits of the phrase "the band" within Prince lyrics. The earliest being a reference to "the band" in the song "Baconskin." I also could remember hearing a reference to "the band" in Housequake right off the top of my head.

Both songs preceded changes in the names of the backing band for Prince. Baconskin a/k/a Irresistible Bitch was a b-side to a 1999 tune, right. And we all know that the NPG was debuted sometime soon after SOTT (Black Album/Camille) Lovesexy (Prince & The New Power Generation). Roughly speaking anyway.
La, la, la
