Rainbow Children isn't spiritual, it's religious.

Purple Rain is very non-commital in it's language - which is what 'spiritual' is really.

I was thinking "Rainbow Children". There is really so much that could be called spiritual of his work. I just ordered Emancipation, what about that?

I'm going to have to go with "Around the world in a Day" want to know why? Buy the Book. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Lovesexy and TRC are both religious... the Lovesexy Tour was very spiritual. There you had Prince acknowledge that whatever God was inside you was what was important AND that it was important for you to let that god come out to play.
I'm sure he had an ida of the kind of god he wanted inhabiting his fans, but I took it as an expression of secular love in a show that endorsed individuality.

Lovesexy WASN'T RELIGIOUS; RELIGION IS A DICTATERSHIP! Prince was saying love each other and love god on lovesexy; on TRC he was trying to DICTATE how people should live and put the point across only his religion is right!

Lovesexy was religious by an absolute mile. Of course it was.
It purported a belief and reassurance in Jesus and, I'm sorry to say, the only Jesus Prince has displayed knowledge of is one through religious belief; hence, Lovesexy = religion. Just because he was being secular with his argument on Lovesexy does not make it a non-religious album. On TRC, you may be right, he may have been trying to dictate. That does not disualify Lovesexy as a religious album. On this, and this is where I firmly stand with regards Prince and his religious attitude, he seemed to be calling all beliefs together. Fantastic. On TRC he had made a decision to follow one religion and expressed an opinion, through the music, that his religion was the right way to 'worship'. I disagree. But then, Prince hasn't listened to me thus far... I can't imagine why he'd start now.

This has been said a BILLION times before, but Lovesexy, and I guess every other "spiritual" piece Prince has done is solidly rooted in Christianity. He says 'Save me Jesus' FFS in Anna Stesia. If that isn't a plea for Christian redemption, I don't know what is. Fair enough, it isn't dogmatic like some of TRC, but it's religious. [Edited 9/10/06 6:03am]

doesn't judging which one of prince's albums to be most spiritual reflect where one is on their journey at this point of time = now?

No. Yes- The spiritual aspect of each one of Prince's albums (if there was one to be found at the time) does reflect where he was spiritually, at the time. At least, this is what I think. And, it doesn't matter to me if an album reflects a part of him from the past. I still find it interesting. I still find his spiritual journey interesting. Not sure I could even articulate as to why. I am not a witness, and not a confirmed christian. But, I guess I can say I have always admired that he was on a spiritual quest. I relate to that, Hence, I posed the orginal question for discussion. Thanks for everyone's response, really cool. [quote]

Lovesexy is the most spiritual Prince album, but The Rainbow Children is a close second . . . but TRC is definitely more religious.
Lovesexy just seems more inviting and "generalized", inviting the listener to make his/her own choices/decisions. The Rainbow Children is preachy.

It's the quest for God that turns me on. ~honey is b-ing 1 with the 1~
