Maybe he doesn't like to think of himself and thus he represses the thoughts, this would of course cause a splintering of his identity.

I think Prince thinks that he is a gifted and talented man who has been blessed by a loving and forgiving God,but he must know that he can sometimes make it difficult for people to stay around him,and is therefore basically alone in his personal life and probably always will be.
