A Musical Tribute To Prince

Hey all,

Now Im finished with my album, my next project will be my Prince tribute. This will consist of my arrangments of Prince songs & I am offering the chance for Prince fans to request their favourites for me to arrange.

I have already uploaded my arrangment of Purple Rain which you may listen to or download free. I hope you will all enjoy whats to come.

The Cloud9 Mission Prince Tribute is located at http://prince.cloud9mission.uk.co

God bless

Lewis

The Question Of U, please. Having heard Prince's own version, a couple of unreleased instrumental versions and a tribute version, I'd love to hear what you could do with it. It's a superb melody and I don't think I'd ever tire of listening to any re-workings of it.

Why don't you do your own music and stop riding Prince's coat tails, trying to sound like him, spell like him, act like him, and BE him.? You aren't Prince, and will never be Prince.

I'll second this.

Also give Crucial a good going over. Cuz then U can put your own sax solo in at the end.

Love, Thy Will Be Done, wink The NPG/Sonny version!!! With all the guitar solos in. wink

Still Would Stand All Time. pleeeze!!

Will the entire album be an instrumental? Or will U be doing using Ur vocals on it??

No not really, Lew has his own style. 100's of musicians, artist, singers and dancers are Prince influenced. If you grew up on Prince, you can't help but to hear a hint of him in your own music, especially during solos/improvisation.

Again Cloud 9 definitely has his own style...

Lew, you dont have to take this into consideration, but for some strange reason, I would love to hear your 'funky' twist to one of Prince's slow ballads;

Pink Cashmere
Q of U and Joy in Rep. (I agree with SexLovely)
ManOwar (I think you would have fun with this)
The One (that would be fun also)
Insatiable (I'm just wishful thinking smile

Blue cool
Dont play me

You don't need his permission (unless the rearrangement is too overt). You need to purchase the license to cover the song.

Wow I like your version A LOT. Like someone said, it does remind me a lot of Rave 2000's version.

I like the organ sound(LOL Is it Organ :p??) blending wit that guitar and the drums. Clear smooth sound, man you're too much.

I'll be easy on you and say do a version of UTCM and the acoustic set of Pink Cashmere,,,plz do that 4 me biggrin.

BTW,,did you play all that?? Your guitar is WAY 2 MUCH 4 me. I like it a lot.

Keep on and don't pay any attention to the negative replies they're just MAD cuz they can't and you can wink!

What about if the tracks are free. I dont like charging for my music much anyway (only charging for the album to pay for the site) so if I wasnt making any money, would that be ok??

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you saying the cover song on the album you're selling is the only thing you're selling, and not the individual cover song itself?

If you're not going to cover the songs in order to distribute them commercially, then you don't need the license. If you cover someone else's copywritten songs on an album that you intend to sell, you'll need the license from the publisher.

"Arms Of Orion" would be great in your hands. Bob Belden did a cover of this song, but didn't do it justice.

The song has a beautiful melody and the lyrics are true Prince. I know a lot of .orgers slam this song, but fuck 'em.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The album is a collection of my own tracks but the Prince covers will be available for free on the site. U think that would be ok??

YIPPEE!

I can't wait Lewis...tell the naysayers 2 kiss ass...I know these covers will b the shit and I totally think u have ur own style apart from the Princey stuff.

I liked xenon's suggestion of Arboretum--that song is 2 short! And SL's suggestions were very good 2.

One song u must do some justice may be Empty Room...wow, ur going 2 have a lot 2 live up 2, man. lol

I'm quite sure it is, Lewis. This comes under the heading of "Fair Use" in that it's not for profit, and you're asking for feedback on your arrangements, therefore making it for criticism. Am I right? If that's the case, it's ok.

By the way, since I like your bass playing so much, consider an interpretation of "Sexy Dancer", will ya? smile

Whoa! Wasnt expecting that, it seems I have recieved several hundred requests eek. Unfortunatly, this means I wont be able to do them all at once as I had planned. I will record 5 at a time &, based on number of requests, here are the first 5:

  • Last December
  • Adore
  • Purple Rain (full version)
  • Pink Cashmire
  • Love, Thy Will Be Done

Sorry to all those whose requests are not on this list, I will record them soon. Feel free to request your favourite.

Thankyou all for the huge response & your very kind words on this thread, I better get in the studio wink

God bless

Lewis
