The Very Best of Prince The Very Best of Prince was one of the most critically lambasted albums by hardcore Prince fans. However, lets think a single disc is only 80 min. Thats not a lot of time people. For Warner Bros. and the 18 years P was there I think they did a good job. The only criticism I have is that it should have been remastered and they had room to put 7 on there as the last song. I think it was good to put Money on there. Its a good song and it was the first P compilation to offer it. But it just doesn't seem right to not end The Very Best of Prince without 7. Overall its a good disc and I find myself listening to it quite frequently. It's not as good as Ultimate or The Hits and B-Sides but it is pleasing. It also luers the casual Prince fan experimenting to becoming a full fledge Prince addict like us. I give it a B+

As you point out: The criticism came from hardcore Prince fans, fans who had probably purchased every track already on previous albums including The Hits / B-sides, which you agree was a better release. So, for at least some hardcore fans, it was a relatively meaningless release / purchase. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.
