Prince References in Movies/Music/Books...

What have you heard or seen in a book, movie or song that refers to Prince as of late? I ask this because occasionally I'll be minding my own business, reading a book, or viewing a movie, and all of a sudden - without warning or request - someone brings up Prince.

Now, I know that I may have super hearing when it comes to anything Prince. But, if it's in a major release or book, it always makes me smile. I get excited thinking the author, writer or director was thinking of me when he wrote it... knowing that we, his "fams", will get all twitterpated upon hearing or reading it. Yes, I said twitterpated.

Here's two examples just recently:

The children's movie, Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, the rich cat (Garfield look-a-like) hears that the regular Garfield is living his life of luxary at an castle in England. He says, "Why he's not even the cat formally known as Prince!" I busted a gut. Me and some other guy in the theatre. Yes, I said "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties", I took my youngins there.

The other example as of late is in a book I was reading called, Downers Grove by Michael Hornburg. On one occasion in the book he writes, "You're hornier than a Prince song".

I wonder what Prince thinks when he comes upon another artist's work referencing him? I think he must just get a pretty good kick out of it.

Has anyone else run into this lately?

Lemme rack my brain heeere...

Okay I'm sure we all know the Pretty Woman reference where Julia is in the tub singing Kiss and Richard catches her and she's like "Don't ya just looooove Prince?" and he says "More than life itself."

In Monster House, the babysitter says something like "I'm not your mother, I not your friend." And I was pretty sure that HAD to be a Prince reference, just because of the tone of her voice.

Harvey Birdman, Attourney at Law, there's this episode where they go back in time and Potamus is like, king of the Neanderthals and he's on the throne making decrees and is like, "And there shall be an orgy! No, A FEAST! Hell, AN ORGYSEXYFEAST!" and the cavedude's like "That's Prince's best album." falloff

I know I know more, but i just gotta think of 'em. biggrin

twitterpated mushy

Stephen King's It; if the character had known the answer to the dj's
question he could have won the new Prince album,he knew the answer
but didnt want to win the new Prince album.

on a different note i was watching The new Adventures of Superman
at the weekend. The epsode was one where all these historical
figures were robbing banks. So Clark and Lois go to a Lookalike agent
and guess who they had up their wall?

falloff

i could tell it was him from a mile off.

Garfield is not just a kids movie, defying popular belief, I bought a DVD of the first Garfiled movie and watch it all the Time. Garfield is actually my favourite obsession after Prince. Ive liked Garfield since I was 10 have all the strip books (1978 to 2006), several treasuries (Sunday strips) and various other complications and 8 plush Garfields and I am a 30 year old men. Yes Garfield and Prince, the only two things I like about America besides chubs. I wanna get a tale of two kitties did u like it.

Eminem mentions the line "ever since Prince turned himself into a symbol" in the without me song.

Oh I just remebered a book called "The charm school" by Nelson DeMille set in 1988 USSR about Americans infiltrating a KGB school where they train KGB agents to be Americans and are KGB spies at the same time. At the American embassy one of the main characters whos always pissing off the Russian spies outside it says, "Lets put on some Prince, that'll piss those commies off", or something like that.

Not sure what track its on, but Digable Planets make a subtle reference to Prince on The Blowout Comb album.

"Check me in another place, space and joy, nothing you could serve could ever ace me boy!"

I get super twitterpated! mushy

A Simpsons episode comes to mind...the one where Santa's Little Helper had all those puppies. Each puppy had his/her own dish. They panned across the room, and one dish said "Prince," and the next one said "The Puppy Formerly Known As Prince."

I was at a friend's house this past weekend and MTV was on. Some dude was interviewing Justin Timberlake. I was half listening until the interviewer said something about "purple royalty." I gasped and nearly broke my neck running over to the TV and sure enough, they flashed some images of our man. love Something about JT's new record being influenced by P.

I love when this happens! It's like an unexpected hit of happy. biggrin

In another Simpsons episode Little Richard comes on stage and Homer shouts "Purple Rain". LR tells him to shut up and Homer gushes "Michael Jackson just told me to shut up."

The movie Soul Man where the dude dresses up as a black guy to get into college and at his girlfriends house everybody imagines him as a black stereotype, the brother imagines him as Prince.

Just remembered in the Sixth Sense, Bruce Willis' wife says her favourite song is Soft and wet by the artist formally known as Prince.

But my Minneapolis was The Bridge, home of the Superkids

on a tv it listed celebrities that had been arrested one was the artist formerly known as prince

and on another one (and there are more) shows prince on the Internet looking up rumors for the "Radioactive man" Movie...

I assume you mean Barney the dinosaur. Isn't it strange how they're both purple and they've both used the yankee doodle dandy theme. Prince during the intermission on the Purple Rain tour and Barney on his opening credits. Are they the same person, have they ever been pictured together????

No no no... the cereal "Fruity Pebbles", they used the Flintstones. they had commercials where Barny would dress up like different people or things to trick Fred into giving him his Fruity Pebbles. in one of them Barny dressed like Prince and was singing "Purple purple, grape grape"

This wasn't actually on a movie or anything like that, but today in my marketing class my teacher goes "Put you're name. Don't change your name. You aren't like Prince. You can't be "The Student Formerlly Known As...""

My friend Jon actually did that. I had so many nicknames for him, he used to write on his biology papers "The Artist Formerly Known as" and then whatever I was calling him at the time. The teacher thought it was a riot. lol

I've heard many prince references... but I just can't remember them right now...
no, wait! there has been atleast five of them in Gilmore girls smile
I think one of them went something like this:
Lanes mother to lane and her band:
"Prince sold millions of records last year! He doesn't drink or do drugs AND he mentiones God! You should try and keep up!" lol

Same with me. I have actually heard several P references on cartoons in the past few weeks and I can't remember any of them. I guess I really am getting old. eek lol

There was a Prince reference on the local news back in 2004. The segment was called "Purple Reign." Apparently, some teachers felt that using red pens when correcting papers was negative, so they started a campaign to use pens that mark in purple instead of red.

Oh! Recently... in the movie Shaun of the Dead, the whole scene when they were throwing LPs at the zombies, and they flipped through some Prince albums, I believe they said no to throwing the Sign 'o' the Times album, but threw the Batman soundtrack.

confused

shrug I liked the Batman soundtrack. pout

Shaun: No!
Ed: Sign O' the Times?
Shaun: Definitely not!
Ed: The Batman Soundtrack?

Not really recent (year 2000), but remember the opening scene of Scary Movie? It has some Prince references in it (sorry I don't feel confident enough to write about it without spoiling/giving away too much of the scene). If anything, (before or after the Prince references in the scene, I forget which) it's nice just to watch Carmen Electra ripping her clothes off in slow motion while she runs through a sprinkler.
