Mother & The Greatest Romance

I made a cd for my mother mixed with some of Prince's more mellow tunes and some Wendy & Lisa, Jesse Johnson, all on the mellow side.

We were talking about Prince and music and she got so excited when The Greatest Romance came on. She said, "THIS is it woot! this is my favorite Prince song of all time!" I had never seen her get so excited about a Prince song, she likes some of his stuff sure, but this was a surprise to me. shocked

I started naming all of the songs I new she liked, like Kiss, Thieves in the Temple, When Doves Cry and so on... I asked her, "U like it better than "Call My Name?" she answered yes, that "The Greatest Romance" was her fav of all time.

I said all of that to ask you other orgers out there with parents over the age of 50, what are your parents favorite Prince song, if they have any?

The Greatest Romance is surely one of his weakest song ever written, really can't stand it.
I don't know if there's a lot of us who actually bother to listen to it?

A poor song from a poor album.....

I can dig and respect ur opinion on that song but mine is the total opposite of urs.Its a beautiful, hypnotic ballad with lots of clever little segments in it that run naturally thru the song and do not spoil at all.I rate it as 1 of his his best ballads nod of course imho....

Generally speaking, my parents don't really like his music. But I occasionally find something... The other day, I was mucking around on the piano playing "Venus de Milo" and my Dad's ear's perked up "What was that lovely tune you were playing?" wink

Your opinion. Weakest written? You have alot of other tunes to listen to, to even consider this one of his weakest. Love the original and the "remix" with Eve is off tha chain.

Well that is YOUR opinion. I don't really see how you can say that, but that's your opinion and I respect that.

In my humble opinion, it surley is not the weakest song or album he has put out, actually I can listen to Rave before some of his other weak stuff. Like the "Come" album, where I think the only half way decent song on there is Space.
Thank you.

Of course i totally disagree with this, i think Come is much more of a decent album than Rave, mind you as always not everything in P album is to be dismissed first hand but musically i prefer Come and songs like Pheromone, Space, Letitgo.
As for The Greatest romance, i persist in saying that it is a dull song equaling any average so called rnb singer: Babyface, Keith Sweat....

I prefer on the same album Man'o'war, much more relevant and more suited to my ears with its guitar solo at the end.
