That's a good question. I know during the Tavis Smiley interview he spoke very highly of the fans who have followed him throughout the years and through his many changes.

You know, Prince deserves his time 'away' from the fans. I hope he stays silent for a while, because oh sure, we've all 'supported' him over the years, but all he sees these days on the internet forums are complaints and diatribes about what he should do and what he hasn't done enough of and what he 'owes' his fans. He doesn't get much support from this newsgroup, that's for sure.
Why should he spend energy 'recognizing' such acrimony? [Edited 8/10/06 15:36pm]

Well let's see...
He's opened his home to his fans. (Celebrations at Paisley Park) (Rave) (Purple ticket gig) He started a club where members got first crack at the best seats for his concerts. (I've personally benefitted here on numerous occasions) He's done countless soundchecks and aftershows open to fans. He's let hundreds get up on stage and dance with him. I'd have to say he does acknowledge his fans and in ways that mean much more than words. Though I'm sure something a little more personal would be welcome as well. [Edited 8/10/06 17:35pm]

Not to re-open that can of worms but on that show he publicly thanked his fams "of colour" because they understood his struggle through the name change/slave thing more. if they felt like calling him Prince against his wishes he was cool, but if a white person followed his instructions and called him something else, it reflected more on them...??? or was that on Larry King in short, no real thanx 4 the support. even his goodby NPGMC letter it was like, thanx for your patience, i will do something better, as always. what about the AMA's in 95? he ran down the laundry list...and I think to a general NPG group out there rambling, over [Edited 8/10/06 17:38pm]

In the Tavis Smiley interview I don't remember him saying anything about race when it comes to his fans. Matter of fact Tavis brought up how Prince appear to have the most diverse audience he's seen. I know we are going to have varying opinions on the matter however all the things that SexyBeautifulOne said to me showed appreciation.

He was acknowledging that the black fans had been there from the very beginning of his career, which is true. The majority of his white fans didn't come aboard until "Little Red Corvette". . . raddah is going to have to get out the betamax recorder for this and dig in the archives for the American Music awards in 1985...
Prince said "4 all of us, life is death without adventure. adventure only comes to those of us who r willing 2 be daring & take chances. eye'd like to thank God, the American public" and then some more i seem to not re-collect at this time... why should we want our ego have Prince thank or acknowledge us? just keep the music flowing please as this earth would be boring without Love's music... [Edited 8/10/06 17:35pm] Well to be fair the Purple Ticket gimmick was to try and boost sales of his album. Some fans bought numerous copies, probably people who couldnt even afford to do so. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

To be even fairer, there were ways to be entered that didn't require buying numerous copies of the cd, so no one HAD to go in debt trying to get a purple ticket.
