Prince; A Profile, my own Best of Prince WMP-playlist.

Help me out here. I, for listening pleasure, compiled a list of Prince songs.
The criteria I used? I just picked out the faves on every album and then some more. Some amazing livestuff and b-sides.
It's about 115 songs (as I am still compiling this can shorten or grow; I just deleted Diamonds & Pearls cuz it is just too grating to me ears),so a real WMP playlist.

And here it is; it is now called Hotter Than Hits, but that is tacky. I need a name for this playlist!

Got any ideas?

Update.

So, Prince; A Profile it is. As soon as I have finalised all the entries I will post the final two lists. Two lists? Yeah, two lists. Because I first always put them in alphabetical order and, like with the Ballad Blizzard, this order works really well.

So I will make an ABC (like this one) and another one, tracked.

And I see I got TWO versions of If I Was Your Girlfriend listed...

Which one shall I keep, the original album version WITH intro or the edit I made, taking off that cabbages intro, with the same intro as the single edit?

But he AIN'T a star no more. He's an Old Skooler now, which means people sample and rip his work and refer to him as, "Prince, that guy my mum used to listen to when I was little."

With the exception of a few songs that you've listed, I'd title the compilation:

Okay, to give you an indication of compilation titles I have had before.

Another hits compilation was called "A Sure Hit", as in 'sure to knock you offa your feet'.

A ballad compilationis called "The Ballad BLizzard", which was created after the thought Prince should release a collection ballads, like Madonna has with her ballad collection.

A collection of religiously themed songs is named "Songs 4 Sunday", as Susan Rogers said in the liner notes of the The Hits that he often records those songs on a sunday.

So. Just merely (based on) song titles ain't gonna cut it. It needs to substantially cover what it is all the best and Hotter Than Hits is all I could come up with so far, as it is kind of dissing the Hits comilation, which, even not perfect, I sure adore because of the inclusion of so many songs that were never released on cd.

LoL

Ahemmm. like I said; 'I am still compiling' which means I am still in doubt about which versions to include.

I am still in doubt about which Future to include and Erotic City, that was just a lil' mistake; that is not the extended version... as it should be.

Ever heard the alternate unreleased remix of Erotic City? Now that is also still a contender... loverly version with unreleased parts... heart

Wow, this playlist is a handful!

Like I said; I am editing this list. I am going through listening all of it's 115 songs (nine hours, two minutes, five seconds) and editing as I go along...

Did I say 'editing'? Yes, I did! Prince CD releases are far from perfect. And in some cases certain parts of certain songs irritate the hell outa me, like that 'chips and whips' outro of the album version of the song Musicology. So I edit that stuff off.

In the meantime I also re-tracked the Purple Rain album, as this compilation includes two songs that were not tracked well or right on the album, so I first pasted I Would Die 4 U and Baby I'm A Star together and then cut them like I want them to. Goodness gracious, what a lot of work this compilation needs!

I edited baby I'm A Star, Housequake, I Would Die 4 U, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Let's Work, Musicology, and Private Joy. And some minor work on other songs, to make songs ends fit better to the next songs intro.

And i am only up to The One. Hehehe...

PS. And even though I love the INSTRUMENTAL part of the One Night Alone version of Xenophobia, I just plainly dislike Prince's vocal introduction of the song on that disc.

I mean, wtf?

Welcome 2 the power of surrender? I kinda dig that, even his own uptight version of how he does not like people wanting him to play his most famous song.

But "Leave that blood alone!" ??? That is SUCH a cultish load of bull... it kind of makes me cringe, to hear him shout out about how focused (or rather 'specified') his views on religion have become over the years.

I rather have him sing Lovesexy, I must admit, as that religious view at least counted people IN, you know? Not OUT...

But that is probably ME. It also means that this song has got to go. I don't want such an uptight view of the world as last song on a kick-ass compilation.

As soon as Prince put out his work he let's go of his children, all his songs are open to interpretation. Everybody is allowed their own opinion.

If you mean I am not a fanATIC, then that's true. I do not blindly like everything he does. I always describe myself an admirer of Prince.

And as to the claim ALL his work is top notch; I am not even going to discuss that with you. You are allowed your own opinion, even if I do not agree with it at all.

Have a nice day! wave

LoL
A few good pointers there. Most of them are not there because they are not my favourite off that particular album. Or I already had a few of that album. Remember, this is a highly personal collection and there is no discussing taste.

I could go along with the ones I bolded out for you. The rest? Uhmmm

I actually meant to put Circle of Amour on there, but I missed that one! Do Me Baby is already on The Ballad BLizzard, but so are a few others. So I might...
Positivity... a bit of a wild card. Love it lots, but I want to use this playlist to woo non-Prince fans and too much freaky stuff might spook them.

I at a certain moment considered D.M.S.R. but thought it too long and monotomous. If I ever find a GOOD version of that first released to radio studio version of Days Of Wild it will go on there IMMEDIATELY.

The two bootleg songs I will not even go into, cuz it would make a mess. I already included b-sides, compilation tracks (Good Love and Purple House) and two non-official live songs, but only because all of these RAWK so hard. Both live songs of the aftershow at Het Paard Van Troje In Den Haag in 88 are of SUCH an amazing quality (in sound AND performance) that not including them would be a crime.
That guitar solo on Just My Imagination is pure heavenly golden bliss and People Without on of those tracks that Prince might think too odd to release, but to me just pinpoints his genius.

Self-knowledge is the way to wisdom...

LoL! No; just kidding! Taste is hard to discus. Whatever rocks your boat. The list I posted is what rocks mine.

I have heard so much Prince music that I can hear upon listening ONCE which new song has staying power and which does not. I am still boggled about what Prince decides to shelf and what he decides to release.

I mean, why release Get On The Boat and shelf God Is Alive? I haven't got the faintest clue...
