What shocked you the most about the Alex Hahn book, Possessed?

That Prince was so damned unkind to his woman, who he treated like shit. I'm sorry, but he must hate woman, in some part of his being. Must be because of problems with his mother.

I only read it once when it first came out, I can't even remember anything that was said in it.

I know one thing though -- that it keeps getting mentioned on here makes me wanna go dig it out again.

Awww, man.It was around that time he was looking real pale and boney and just .. unhealthy.
He was worried about his heart because he was having heart palpitations and they were getting worse. So instead of going to a damn doctor, dude starts to medicate himself with aspirin and wine.
One day he drank a whole bottle of wine and got very drunk and then took a bunch of aspirin.

Then he got sick and started throwing up and had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctors asked him if he was having heart problems.. and this fool said "no."

around 95/96 prince consumed a lot of pills and wine and in his drugged, drunk state he recorded the song "the most beautiful girl in the world". after he woke up from a drug/drink-induced sleep he played back the song and promptly began vomiting.

wait, thats not right....

around 95/96 when p was (allegedly, but probably) having financial difficulties he (allegedly) consumed a lot of wine and aspirin to numb uncomfortable chest palpitations and occasional sharp pains he had been experiencing. he started vomiting and got taken to the ER. the doctors "peppered" him with questions, and his responses sounded "cagey, elusive and incomplete". y'know, sort of like "possessed" by alex hahn, except way cooler

Ditto the substance abuse, it had never been mentioned until then. Also the fact I think Hahn was really the first non fan to write a book about him and it dosent have that sort fan glow fairy dust over the pages.

The book keeps contradicting itself...

It will say something like "his music was becoming stale because he was playing all the instruments himself, blah, blah", then later it will say "his music was becoming stale because he was relying on band members to come up with grooves, blah, blah."

I haven't got the book in front of me so I can't find any specific examples, but that was the general impression I got.

Having raised three children in a two parent household, I can't imagine being a single parent with adolescents. It can be a nightmare. I actually changed the locks on my oldest (after threatening to do so for months) until he changed his behavior and cleaned up his act. He did.

What surprised me most on the book, is P is a little,[i]greedy? I guess if he's gotten burned he needs to protect himself. NOT TO MAKE EXCUSES FOR THE MAN. (i'm a parent, force of habit)

By the way, a SINGLE aspirin throws off the platelet count for 7 days. If you injure yourself, and start to bleed, rather than the platelets accumulating at the site to form a clot(hemostasis) they don't "stick". And you bleed longer.
Don't schedule yourself for surgery if taking aspirin.

i was raised by my mother only. i had many many issues regarding her. those issues, combined with my sense of abandonment by my father, led me to develop an illness of the heart. i didnt know what it was to truly be loved by another. so i spent alot of my adult years, believing it existed, knowing what i thought it meant to me, mainly because of the love i have for music and the love music has for me, but romantically i was very confused, because i was not given a very a good example of what love is from my parents, i had romantic notions that i always believed in, so i would choose partners who i thought reflected that romantic love, but i was really choosing partners that tested my sense of self-worth, because i did not know what it was to be loved by another, i had to first learn how to truly have love for myself. i spent many many years getting drunk, and looking for love in all the wrong places, but they turned out to be the right places, not that i found love there, but they helped me to love myself, because those people were not my real friends, they only cared what they could get from me. since i have found love for myself, i am now closer than ever to finding real love from another. the one that comes from the inside of me, whom i love unconditionally and will always serve, cherish and protect to the highest of my ability as a child and servant of God, black and white. x

Did ya ever wonder WHY he was having palpitations in the 1st place????? (in the 30's age group, it's kinda a baaad sign) Precipitates the question: what else besides aspirin you've been takin?

Well, define"credible."
I mean, he lists former bandmates, engineers, record industry people, old girlfriends..etc among his sources.Prince's money "issues" around 1996 were no secret.A lot of the other stuff is pretty much in line with what's been said a million times already. I doubt that it would have been hard to find info and some people willing to talk (especially off the record). Some of the stuff (most of it in my opinion) is completely believeable.

that book at least seemed a little more well-rounded. it didn't seem like the author had some kind of vendetta against the book's subject.

honestly though, "the" prince bio has yet to be written. everything so far has been pretty crap. DMSR is the closest i've read to something good.

Unkind?
Like what?

I heard he was a bad cheater who had several women on the go at a regular basis.

Did he cheat on his wife?

Damn; did he ever treat ANYONE kindly?
