Musicology revisted..... ok.. I have been one of those people that said "Musicology" didn't really do enuf for me in comparision to most Prince albums...
BUT.... we are hosting an exchange student from Japan and he is really into music but didn't know that much about Prince. so we've been listening to a lot of Prince stuff this weekend and I put in Musicology for him and about a year after not really listening to it... I liked it a lot more than ever b4...

i dont think its a bad album, just very underwhelming. it's very "comfortable", like he was just sort of coasting for most of it and not really going all out. in that respect, i always think of in relation to neil young's "silver & gold" album [Edited 8/7/06 7:49am]

Musicology didn't really cut it for me...I think for the first time a Prince album failed to produce a song that I love...There are some good songs, and a helluva lotta songs I really don't dig...

I love "A Million Days" and on the whole, enjoy Musicology quite a bit. The main reason for the post is this though:
My buddy who has never been into Prince quotes Musicology all the time without even realizing it. I think the album truly was a larger success than we give credit for from a sales and influence standpoint. It may not be the strongest for alot of people, but it did bring Prince to a new generation in an undeniable way. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

The only songs I still really like are:
A Million Days What Do U Want Me 2 Do? Reflection and to a lesser extent "Dear Mr Man", which is a cool song but it's lyrics are so dull compared to the politics of songs like "Sign o the Times". on a whole, it's not a bad album but a very boring, uneventfull one with simply too many cringe moments. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Looking back, there's more individual songs on Musicology that I enjoy than there are on 3121. But it's still pretty sucky, it's starts off terrible IMO, the title track, ICP&C, whatever comes next and Life O' The Party
It gets better from there.

Funny...
I find 3121 to be, on average, a much more "comfortable" album than Musicology is. Musicology was my first Prince album, and I find it still, after many others, to be a great album.
