This tune is pretty straight-forward in its spiritual message. this is definitely prince talking about himself and his own experience here! tamar is just a mouthpiece. word, my jedi-friend! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Check out the SNL version. He says:
and then you whispered to me girl the words I so now understand On the recorded version he says: Cause when you whispered in my ear the words I so now understand Who is he talking about? SNL version and recorded version.

The recorded version is definitely about God, and nothing else in the SNL version would tend to indicate it being about anything but God. Sometimes things happen unexpectingly. so are you saying they are together? the question is... when are they breaking up? I'm not saying they are together, but I think Prince just wants something different, and her look is different from all of his other women, And when you spend a lot of time together I think feelings do start to develop unintentionally. And he spends a mass amount of time with Tamar...musically.

especially P's voice at the beginning of his part in the duet. their relationship appears nothing but professional to me. and i sense their 'friendship' has been nothing but helpful to P during this difficult time. i really liked the hug HE REACHED FOR HER ON SNL. cause she was so not expecting it. and it appeared HE NEEDED THE HUG she generously and graciously gave it to him. i enjoyed seeing HIM "vulnerable" on stage, performing such a sweet, heart-based song. i think the point of the song, like many of P's songs is multi-faceted. it has a biblical reference (potter/clay), but perhaps it was inspired by a real friend in real life that he put into a biblical and universal framework. i'm just sad for her that HER album's not happenin' . . . [Edited 7/28/06 22:26pm] I totally agree. The song does appear to have a double meaning. It's not just a straight forward song about God, it's also a song about a friendship(platonic) between two people. Here's a gif of the hug. P looked to be very proud of his mentee. [Edited 7/28/06 23:22pm] I agree with you guys on this one. I absolutely love this song. Oh, and the hug in SNL, SWEET! Did you guys watch the Brit Awards? He planted a kiss on her face at some point during the performance.

A while ago I read a small article in Psychology Today about this, it is called the propinquity effect.

AND multi-faceted! a real person whispered in his ear, You are BL&B, P! and P was reminded of God loving him, etc. it's not either-or it's both-and, man!

Uhm, I didn't know that she had been a Prince fan. A few months ago, I visited Tamar's site. There's this pic of her and Prince that reminded me of a pic of Mani and Prince before it was official that they were a couple. Prince and Tamar are sitting in a couch. Prince looks rather tense and uptight like a doll and Tamar looks relaxed and confident. If they don't marry, they are probably in a relationaship of some sort already.
